I'm now seriously considering buying a new m14x but i want to make sure a new one isnt expected in the next couple of months or anything because that would make me rather outraged.

    Thanks in advance!

The r2 just came out so I would just get one now unless you're waiting for the i5 IVB. There will most likely be another refresh next year around this time.

Yeah, I'm pretty amazed at the lack of a simple look around before people post here.

I thought that the r2 was released at the end of last year with the cpu being upgraded to ivy bridge models in april (but still called the r2) therefore i was wondering if there was a new one being released at the end of this year or next year.. Sorry for offending...

Don't worry about it. I'm amazed that people will take the time to post some rude remark in a thread when they could have just as easily posted something useful and kept their less than useless and offensive thoughts to themselves :)

I don't know where you got that impression, but the R2 was first announced in April, with the Ivy Bridge part announced one week later. Alienware was still on the R1 in December.

This is always a good question to ask. Alienware is constantly revising their machines, and sometimes it can be worthwhile to wait (ie. people who bought the M11x r1 and the r2 came out with faster CPU's almost less than 6 months later).

But everyone else (that provided information) is right, there is nothing currently on the horizon but the NVIDIA 700 GPU's and Haswell, which you shouldnt be expecting for a while.

It's a great time to get an M14x. The R2 just recently came out so there won't be an update for a while. I just got mine in the mail last week. I'm really loving my R2.

Until official word from Dell, all we can do is guess and speculate which leads to nothing productive.
