I bought a Alienware m14x recently and its only been 2 weeks to a month and already my G key has not paint on the cap and the Q key is chipping. I was wondering if this is a common issue. I am considering replacing all the chipped keys but they are $5 dollars a pop for the Alienware m15x keys. This brings me to my next question I can not find any site that sells m14x replacement keys will the m15x keys fit and work as a replacement? If anyone can give me some advice on what to do on this matter or can help me out I would appreciate it.
p.s I do not press very hard on the keys so I am not sure why the paint is rising and the chipping off.

Hm...what's the weather like where you live? Temperature/humidity?
-
If it is only a few weeks old don't buy keys. Call support and tell them you need a new keyboard installed. It's under warranty and they will deal with it not you.
-
Yeah its possible that humidity effected the paint in this fashion. I love the new system overall its just this one thing that kind of struck me as odd. I will send it in and have it serviced since its a new system[28 days old]. They project that it will only take 7 days after I send it to be serviced and I hope that is true so that I will have my PC before I have to leave for school.
-
I would think they would send the keyboard to a home tech to install it there and save time and cost?
-
Yeah I wish they would just send me new coponents and just let my replace them as they crap out but if they want me to send it in I guess thats what I'll have to do. If it only takes 7 days than I will have time to get it back before I head back to NY. It better not take more than 20 days for them to replace 2 keys lol. -
After you get the replacement, you can try a keyboard cover. I have one and it's very useful and comfortable.
-
What kind of cover do you use/recommend that I use for my M14x? I might do this so I do not have this problem after my replacement.
-
I use the basic made-in-China one, fits perfectly and you can close the notebook without taking it out:

There might be fancier ones, but this'll do the job. -
Oh thats not bad at all do you still have a place where you bought it in a link somewhere? Of you do that'd be great if not I'll find it one way or another ha.
Update on getting my keys fixed: After 8 calls to several different Dell customer support lines and getting disconnected in the middle of a conversation or transfer I finally found the right tech support guy. He has a tech guy coming to my house after he calls me saying he has the right parts. Cool thing is it seems like they are going to replace my entire key board which is good by me if it has deficient paint. This is kind of a good thing because I didn't really want to risk my computer being sent out and handled at some place. Its nice to just have a tech come to my place and take care of the issue. -
look for "keyboard cover m14x" on ebay, should be the same as mine.
-
I also have this problem only with my S key, i am currently in Sweden but will be back in the states soon, i got my computer maybe a month ago so im sure its covered by warrenty
-
Thats pretty funny if you think about the keys we have chipping. I have G and Q so its like I got angry and told someone to QQ or I told someone GG after a match but I don't use either key that often and im nice to my system. The S on yours makes it seem as if you were hardcore retreating while playing a game but its probably not the case. What I think it is is the vent is on this side of the key board and it seems to only be effecting the keys on that side. Possible the heat is effecting the paint on our systems keyboard not sure yet.
