Can anyone kindly tell me how easy it is to install 8GB of Ram (2x4 Module) in the M14x? Also a link to Newegg (best rating & performance) to tell me which one to buy? TIA

There's pics in this post. It's the bottom right of the computer...remove a couple screws and bam. Real easy.

Based on this review, I bought the HyperX 1866 MHz memory (part # KHX1866C11S3P1K2/8G) direct from Kingston (it's sold out everywhere, including from them). It's about $50 more but I figured for the extra juice it's worth a shot. :)

    Is your CPU i7 2630QM or i7 2720QM ???

    if is 2630 your memory speed is 1333 mhz Newegg.com - CORSAIR 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 Laptop Memory Model CMSO8GX3M2A1333C9

if is 2730 your memory is 1600 mhz

both are good, there is not a big difference in performance, is just a little..but help
so...if your cpu is the 2630 dont buy the 1600 because is not going to use

    otherwise...if is 2730 buy the 1600

False. You can set it to 1600 or higher in BIOS. Or with XMP it will auto-set to the fastest speed. See the links in my post above.

From that review, why do they compare an 8GB memory config with a 6GB memory config? Does it not matter?

Stock versus upgraded. The gains they saw could have been from going from mixed to pure dual channel...but the most important thing from that review was the CPU-Z output showing a "standard" Sandy Bridge lappy utilizing the 1866 MHz speeds via XMP.

Therefore, if you buy either the "Sandy Bridge plug n play" 1600 or 1866 Kingston HyperX RAM, it'll automatically switch to the max capability of the RAM without the need to go into the BIOS (via XMP).

Does this mean that even if I don't have any RAM OC settings in my laptop BIOS, as long as I get the 1600MHz Kingston HyperX PnP, it will work at 1600MHz with the 2630QM?

I´m considering to buy the m14x in the next couple weeks (with i7-2670,4gm RAM, 1.5Gb gt555, 1600x900) and I´m planing to upgrade my RAM, and get a ssd later.
My question is, if I do these changes myself, am I going to loose the warranty?!

But your laptop is overclockable right?

I'll be having a Sager NP8130 with the H65 chipset on it, does this apply also with my laptop?

PNP means you memory will overclock without Bios influence. It is managed by Win7.

In my case it is 1600 Mhz. So either way, you will get maximum speed supported.

But if you ask in Sager forums, you will get definite answer.

p.s. Sager NP8130 is definitely overclockable too, with custom Bios.

No, Although if you have an issue and during the remote diagnosis if they believe the problem is related to the RAM, or drive (or whatever you upgrade, including OS). They will ask you to switch them back to the default or they will not do any work on it.

So basically if, after I upgrade my system, some issues show up, I´d have to undo whatever changes I made so that I could benefit from warranty?

Memory is overclockable in Bios, settings 1066, 1333, 1666, 1800. And has 2 Bios-XMP profiles: 1333 and 1666. And has memory volt adjust. I have my bios for memory set at no overclocking a.k.a. AUTO. No XMP profile selected/needed.

Processor is a very little bit overclockable. 2.8 vs. 2.9.

    Integrated processor graphics is bios-overclockable.
Nvidia GPU is not overclockable in the Bios.

    Just ask lol

Yes, I would not sell my M14X stock HD and/or memory. But after warranty is over (April 2012) I will. Specially HD prices going up lol

Ok. I guess I have to check myself when the computer arrives then. People in the Sager NP8130 Owner's Lounge seem to have no clue about using these 1600MHz PnP modules with the 2630QM.

Where were you able to confirm about the custom BIOS for the NP8130?
