In this review: YouTube - Dell Alienware M14x R1 review‏ at 5:20, the guy has his iTunes set up to use the keyboard lights as a visualizer. He says you have to get the LightFX.dll out of the command center and put it in your iTunes folder. I found several LightFX.dll's in C:\Program Files\Alienware\Command Center\AlienFX SDK but I don't know what to use and where to put it. I tried a few but they don't appear in iTunes.
Does anyone know exactly how to do this?
-
Copy c:\Program files\Alienware\commandcenter\Media plugin\Itunes\WiTunesAlienFXPlugin.dll to -
C:\Users\[YOUR PROFILE NAME]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes Plug-ins\
if you can't find AppData just input the info in the search field, eventually you will find it and it will be an empty folder.
Then open itunes and go to VIEW select Visualizer...select Alienware Alien FX. Make sure you click on Show Visualizer. Theres even an option also if you want to mess around with the lighting. -
thats pretty cool gonna try that out
-
Lol that's my video, but ya do what 8BitZombie said.
Before you open iTunes afterwards though, right-click the alien icon in the tray and click Enable 3rd Party Applications -
Thanks 8bitZombie and fred! That worked perfectly! And that youtube video is the best m14x video review I've seen.
How do you get it to switch zones like it does in the video? -
Click on Visualizer...below the AlienFX theres an "option" click on that. You will see a drop down on Octave which is like the frequency. You can click on what part of your panel to what color you like. Just repeat on each octave. Then you will see the mix of lights. Enjoy
-
Okay, that's way cooler looking. Thanks!
-
thats really cool, which frequency do you think works the best?
-
That's hot.
-
this isnt working for me i followed the directions to the letter and nothing happens and when scroll over visualizers alienfx is not an option there.
-
yea i dont see the option either
EDIT: nvm. got it working
just to to enable alienfx .. lolz
-
Did you restart iTunes?
Also, right click the icon in the sys tray, and make sure you have 3rd party access enabled. -
yep did all this and still wont work
-
So I followed the C:\Users\[YOUR PROFILE NAME]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes Plug-ins\
And I dont have an AppData folder what so ever. I have a Roaming folder in my profile name folder but it only have one folder named intel -
Nevermind. It was hidden.
-
Does it work? For me It was like random, sometime it does work and sometime is doesnt.
-
Is there a way to do this with the m15x? I can't find the plugin anywhere in my system.
-
Not sure for iTune, but guarantee to work on Winamp!
AlienFX Winamp Plugin -
still not working i have the .dll copied into the itunes plugin folder i have itunes running on admin and 3rd party access enabled for alienfx, the problem is the visualizer isnt showing up in itunes and it wont let me click the option button for it in the visualizer drop down, its grayed out and unclickable. Anyone know how to fix this i really wanna get this to work.
-
This was cool
-
For the m14x, I believe there are files for all WMP, Winamp and iTunes.
Tried on all 3 and all works.
But iTunes works the smoothest for me, with Winamp itself being unresponsive sometimes.
Anyone has any cool setting? Tried mine but, with the area of light here and there isn't that smooth
-
That is not for M14x, it for All others, I think it is because of M14x is too new to be support
.
Anyway, I got it work, what I do is download the command centre from Dell website and reinstall it, and restart.
Then do this steps again: http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m14x/581718-lightfx-itunes.html#post7538554
Command Centre can be download HERE: M14x Command Centre -
Sorry to dif up an old thread but will some post the settings used for there itunes alienfx themes online. In not to savy when it comes to all the freqs and where they hit.
-
what is the easiest and most effective waay to make a light show for itunes i am quite confused.
hope someone can help me out with that. that would be great -
I dont think there would be any setting file but to change the setting in the option menu yourself, right now I'm away from my laptop, and will post my setting in text when i'm back home.
-
thanks works great
-
thought id state that i dug into windows media settings and visualization has alien fx settings already in there with no file copy req.
sorry to change subject, im just not an "I" kinda guy -
hey but this does work with the M17X R3 right?
-
does anyone have a background picture going, would be good if u could have the default itunes visual video going with the alienware keyboard
-
I can't find the DLL, i havr M17x R2... Can somebody hand me the .dll?
-
So, mine like is spazzing out. I can see no correlation between what I'm hearing and what I'm seeing. Maybe because it's an m11x?
-
Try use Winamp instead because iTune is not as good at detecting beat as Winamp plus there is a person named Ingrate who create a plugin specific for the AlienFX Visualization, so if you want a more accurate Visualization then try his plugin, be sure to read instruction carefully otherwise it will not work, any question you should ask on that thread: AlienFX Plugin - Winamp Plugin
-
Is there any plugin or software that can do something with the simple background on the screen so that we can trip
on the screen with the keyboards lights
LightFX with iTunes?
