    Hi all,

really liking my M14x - performance is great.

I'm suffering from really long boot up times (from off) though. Not sure whether it is just windows updates etc. but the screen is black (I'm also using an external monitor) for quite a while until the Windows login/loading kicks in.

While the screen is black the only thing showing is a cursor in the top left (like an underscore).

Any thoughts? Or is this likely to be windows updates?

    Thanks

I have had this problem with my M17x. This starts after installing large windows updates. What I did to solve this was to defrag the boot drive.

Ok - am defragging now so hopefully this works. Thanks!

Hey, just an update. Defragging wasn't the issue.

I've managed to pin it down to the presence of my USB Razer mouse. If I remove this it boots really fast.

Hmm - might be a case of getting the proper drivers for it. Not sure at the moment.

Do you have any issues whereby the system shows welcome login screen for awhile before entering desktop?

No - once the Windows process appears it runs fast.

I updated the drivers for my Razer mouse and now it works perfectly :) . So, for me, it was just a mouse/drivers issue rather than anything particular about the M14X.
