The space that will be used for the 2nd HDD on the Alienware 14 is located where the Optical Drive is, you need to remove the ODD and put a cage there. The cage part # is 673WT.
-
Hi, thank you for your reaponse, where i can buy the cage? I need one.
-
Same here, I'm looking for a caddy that is suitable for replacing my ODD with a HDD/SSD on my Alienware 14
-
Anyone knows wher to buy please...
-
The part is not active for sale yet. We focus on getting the new systems out before offering upgrade parts.
-
any luck on finding one of these caddy's anywhere yet?
-
I you were to guess, then how long, or how many months can we expect that the part will be available?
-
I'm from the UK. Any idea where I can buy the caddy to replace the optical drive with the factory 750gb hdd? This is for the new aw14.
-
still no word on any yet? -
nothing out yet?

Hello,
I just purchased this and it works: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B008DCMRNA/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (says mac book but works on the m14x) What you need is a 9.5mm caddy not a 12.5mm one.
Edit:
Just had a look at your ebay link yes that one should do the trick infact I bet its exactly the same model as mine apart from the branding

Works in the 14x but what about the 14?
-
Guess it should too, does the 14 not have a DVD tray? You just slide the disk in? If so yes it will work.
-
I called Alienware and they gave me the caddy for free. Also free screws. Don't forget to ask for data cable its different from the CD drive data cable.

Needs a different data cable... Well this may explain why I am getting BSOD? As I haven't changed the cable. What do you think?
-
Keep in mind people, that part number is the official caddy.
The ebay kits are specifically designed to fit any internal laptop DVD drive, so a 9.5mm kit will fit properly in any laptop with light modification

Do you have the part# for the cable? -
FYI, I removed the caddy and still had BSOD so wasn't that.

Well AW sent me the HD cage and cable but didnt send the new optical drive cage the HD cage needs to mount to.
trying to get it now..
-
What did that call look like? "I want a caddy, please???" lol. Really though, what is the process?
-
I asked for a all those bits, they simply said "We don't provide those parts"
Can you give us part numbers? -

Two cages, cable and screws? Am I missing something?
-
This is an old thread, but I really need to get the caddy into my AW 14.
Does the optical SATA port support SATA3 with the caddy installed?
Seems to be some confusion over the part numbers, what are the exact part numbers needed to put in the caddy fully working? -
The ODD should run at SATA II, regardless of the disk installed.
-
Dell support is utter rubbish, massive thumbs down for their disappointing service.
I have PM one of the active Alienware reps here, but obviously ignoring me.
Can anyone please let me know what parts do I need exactly? -
