Seagate released an update to their Momentus XT hybrid 2.5" drive. The new 750gb model has double the SSD cache and higher performance than their original 500gb model. I attempted to install this new drive into my M14X and encountered some serious issues. OS freezing, boot failure and data corruption were rampant. After several hours of trial and error I finally got this drive to work. Here is what you have to do:

    1. You have to update the BIOS of the M14X to version A08.

    2. When installing Windows 7 (or XP) you have to choose "Load Driver" in the initial setup and use the latest Intel RST (Rapid Storage Technology) driver. Download the F6 driver diskette file from this link and put the files on a USB stick. When prompted point to the USB stick and select the mobile chipset driver from the list.

Once you complete these steps you should be able to install Windows 7 without issue. Just remember to install the cougar point chipset drivers and the 64bit version of the Intel RST driver right after you boot into Windows 7 for the first time.

Hopefully this will help anyone that's currently pulling their hair out trying to get this drive to work properly.

Hello, I had the 500GB Momentus XT and I replaced it with the XT2 using Acronis 2012, by cloning the old to the new hd, no problems, first updating bios to A08.

    Ciao

Cool. I was running bios version A05 and during the Windows 7 setup process the drive wasn't even being detected. I had to reinstall my old 500GB WD Black HD, update the bios to A08 then reinstall the XT2. Such a PITA!

Its old news that SSD's are popular for their instability running on SATA3, or Just BIOS A06 and back

Had no problems with mine using clonezilla and just cloning one hard drive to another hard drive. I'm using a modified bios A05 with volt mod when I did it too.
