This maybe a stupid question but it's been a while since i've been a PC user exp w/ Win7.

How important is it to update these 'recommended ' drivers? And can I expect my M14x to update any of these automatically? or will i need to pay attention and keep the drivers up to date manually?

    Hi bud,

Depends on the application and driver to be honest, but considering that the laptop is relatively new i would suggest updating the first set of drivers as soon as new ones come out.

Windows wont update these for your automatically (generally anyway unless they fall under windows update, which most drivers dont).

Just keep an eye on the forums as that should do the trick.

Buy a sata 3 drive. It will still work on sata 2, just not at its maximum speeds. The hardware does have sata 3 capability, so it is only a matter of time before that is fixed.

i hope your correct... i dont want to be stuck paying more for less..... I will be supremely pissed if dell/alienware does not address this!

i see sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't make me feel we purchased defective cougar point chipsets!

Very nice! I am tempted to get the OCZ Agility 3 currently, I have the Momentus XT (SSHD) which is sort of the middle gap between true SSD and true HDD. I imagine switching from that will be a great performance boost, especially with SATA III being utilised.

I have a question, I have the Kingston HyperX 1600 (using XMP Profile 2 currently), did you get better speed RAM or did you overclock your RAM to achieve 1866?

I don't understand the nitpicking over Sata 2.0 vs. 3.0. The speed difference is so minimal that most users won't be able to tell the difference anyways. I picked a Vertex 2 because having 240GB was more important to me than the extra .01 of a second difference in speeds with 120GB of space.

And my Windows Performance Index is also 6.9, with a drive performance of 7.6.

I see, then maybe I'll go for the 2 series, assuming it's cheaper (I haven't explored this route yet). Thanks.

I was under the understanding that some of the newer Sata 3 SSD's were comparable in price to the older Sata 2.

I got the This. It was only $25 more then the 1600Mhz when I bought it so firgured what the hell.

I pruchased my M4 for less then the C300 and it was the same as the Intel 320 as well so might as well buy th enew stuff right?

285 mbps vs 550 mbps. That is over a 90% performance increase. I have a vertex 2 and would love to get a cosair force 3 and double my speeds. It is almost as drastic in some cases as going from hhd to ssd. Talk about quick starcraft 2 load times.

When you first click to download, they will give you two options: 1) use download manager, 2) direct download to HDD; and a check box to always remember your choice. If you accidentally clicked the download manager, and forgot to un-check the check box, it will keep prompting you to download the download manager every time you try to download anything. To fix it, just clear your cookies and try downloading again, this time round, choose the direct download option.
