I'm sure most people buy goodies to enhance their M14x experience. I thought it would be fun to compare, contrast, and recommend (or not) our accessories and addons.

    Here's my current wish-list:

ZALMAN Ultra Quiet Notebook Cooler Model ZM-NC1000 Black

    Kingston HyperX 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory Model KHX1600C9S3K2/8GX

RAZER Moray+ 3.5mm Connector Canal Mobile Gaming Communicator

RAZER Kabuto Mobile Gaming Mouse Mat

I was initially thinking of purchasing a Razer Kabuto Mobile Gaming Mouse but I already have a Razer Naga that I think I'll just carry around with me instead of blowing money on another mouse. I also have a set of Logitech G35's but I'm not sure if I want to sit around in public (on campus) with those things on my head so I'm considering the Morays. I know, I know. Pride.

    So how about you all?

I notice a lot of people buying the cooler master U2. I'm only shying away from it because it looks uncomfortable to sit on your lap. Is that the case?

I think it will be uncomfortable. I only use the cooler when I play game.

I'm still wondering the same thing. I'm assuming he's saying it is not. I've actually heard some complaints about the U2 and the Zalman so I may look at the Notepal EVO. It's a bit more expensive but apparently performs well and is more comfortable.

I'm starting to become a bit skeptical as to whether or not a notebook cooler is worth it. Most of the benchmarks I've seen have only recorder a differences of a few degrees as far as the GPU and CPU go. I know they generally cool the overall system but if anyone can post some results for the difference in temps for their CPU/GPU please post them here.

Zalman NC laptop coolers are awesome, but for the M14x you'll want the NC2000, not the NC1000 (only difference is size - NC2000 is perfect).

Just looking at your wishlist, regarding the headphones... My HTC Desire S, came with Headphones, standard size, as they're designed for a mobile, they look identical to those you have shown, they also have a handset mute, volume control and pause/play/skip for the music functions and all work on my VAIO, so should work on an Alienware easily, might save you some pennies if you have one or are due for an upgrade soon? Any newish phone would come with the same or similar I would imagine?

Secondly if you don't need the extra buttons on the gaming mouse, I have a USB wireless Logitech Mouse, Mini, it's small, but I have small hands for a guy, so it works well and cost less than £10, batteries haven't been replaced yet, signal is great and not had a problem yet (touches wood)

RE the Cooler, have you looked at the X2 Cooler Master?

Hope this helps, good luck with the wish list if not, can't help on the RAM as mine is coming with 8gb anyway, however have read that it may be worth holding off as 16b in 2 x 8gb sticks at higher than 1600MHz are due to drop in price in the next few months, due to that doubling theory... Can't remember the name...

    Thanks for your response!

The Moray's are specifically for gaming, they are discrete, and I can also use it for my iPhone so that is why I was interested in them.

As far as the mouse, I actually have a wireless 5-button notebook mouse that I could use. The only reason I was considering another mouse is because I have been using the Naga for gaming and have gotten very use to extra buttons. They are awesome for gaming.

I have actually looked at the X2 and it gets great reviews and has a good price. I was considering it until recently I looked up some benchmarks and honestly MOST notebook coolers don't seem to reduce the temperature of the CPU/GPU by much. I see differences in the system temperature and chassis but that doesn't matter to me. I'm more a performance nut and if it doesn't enhance the performance by reducing the CPU/GPU temps significantly it isn't worth the buy. I'm still researching though. What's your experience been with it?

I just bought the Logitech G35's and the Razer Mobile Mouse Pad! The G35's are SUPER nice plus I got a really nice deal thru BestBuy for $84.99. I recommend either of those items.

The NC2000 is a lot bigger than the M14x. It fits 17" laptops, so ... I'd go for something smaller.

I have the G35's too and they are awesome. I'm just being vain with not wanting to wear them in front of people on campus lol. It's also nice to have some phones that I can use with my phone AND with my laptop. I don't know. I still haven't bought the Morays yet. I'm still deciding.
