I know that this laptop has a mini sub woofer but I swear I can't hear it even when I turn on rap music. I didnt get the soundblaster software. Mabye I need the software to get it to really work? The sound on the laptop is very clear and good but just can't hear the sub at all and also the sound doesn't seem to go very loud.

    UPDATE:

I figured out that you have to go to control panel, sound, playback, click speakers then configure. It was set to only 2 speakers by default not 5.1 surround that includes the sub. Hope this helps some people.

P.S. The sound now is louder at half volume than it was at full volume before. Equalizer helps alot too.

Yea I thought I was the only one thinks the sound isn't very loud at all. It's definitely has a clear and crisp sound, pretty soothing but I expected more punch when volume at max :(

It's only something like a 4W output. My desktop sub by comparison is a 45W unit, so don't be epecting any sort of "punch" out of it.

The most it'll do is flesh out the tones a bit, and add to overall volume, much like you've described.

If you want to check if it's working, take the bottom panel off, play something, and while it's playing, put your finger on the sub. With the sub unable to vibrate, you'll hear the difference with/without.

what if you had the upgrade to the sound, i think it was just software but would that make it louder ?

I personally thought this laptop was really loud.

Granted my previous laptops have been budget $300-$400 ones and such

No. The X-Fi software overlay will only give you better quality sound, and only with headphones. Most people won't notice.

I put my hand over the sub, then took it off a few times and didn't notice any difference. I also didn't feel anything.

Did you take the bottom cover off, so that you could touch the sub directly?

Play a song with lots of base, if you feel nothing then its not connected because you can definitely tell.

if you take the bottom cover off, you can probably just look and see that it's working when a song is playing. I feel like putting your finger on it isn't a very good idea, but idk lol.

as others stated, it's not gonna be slab  it's just add another small layer to the laptop sound. If you want more bass, pick up a 2.1 system of amazon or somethin for relatively cheap..

I never expected it to do much. But I did expect it to do something... I can't tell that it is doing anything. I will take the bottom off and hold the laptop up while its playing after I throw in my SSD tomorrow.

Yeah I really don't think its working. I just looked with a really bright flashlight and couldn't see it moving at all.

Can someone look with a flashlight with a high bass song and see if they can see theirs moving.

    Thanks

Just did some surfing with the tiny tiny vaio P.

Now switched to M14x and the bass is huge! :D
Well, it is a lot better than many laptops. But still no where good as $30 external speakers

It sounds pretty damn good!!! If you go into speaker properties in the same area I explained earlier. If you enable equalizer then click on the Bass setting and up the right side slides a bit it sounds amazing!

If I turn up the volume over half now the sub gets over worked and starts making some static. It shakes my desk now hahaha

Did you disable center + rear speakers and just turned on Left+Right+Sub?

No, I just enabled 5.1 surround and checked the equalizer box and selected bass and modified it a bit. If you have the bass up too much the sub maxes out and starts getting choppy. If you modify the club one instead and just turn up the far left few(sub) then its perfect imo.

How do you get the sub working without using 5.1? and just the standard 2.1?

Most sound software will detect a sub. You usually get an option of 2.0/2.1, 4.1, 5.1, 7.1, etc.

I've also found Realtek drivers to be a pain in the hole to recognise speakers correctly. To this day I can't get my onboard sound to recognise my 5.1 setup correctly. My dedicated card on the other hands picks everything up correctly no problem.

Yeah I opened up the case, and noticed how small the little sub is. Its about the size of a nickel - not much punch going to come from that. Overall though, this laptop has by far the best sounding and loud speakers i've ever heard for its size. At full volume its way too loud. The mid-high range is also very crisp and distinguishable when you play around with the equalizer.

The woofer is actually more than the little down-firing speaker...

Agreed - but if you look at the diagram, there appears to be more than just the speaker. They actually went out of their way to create an enclosure for it! LOL.

Not like it helps much - the little thing does nothing more than a little vibration every now and then.
