I'm extremely excited to be getting my Alienware Mx14, I ordered it on December 25th with an installment plan with the 12 month no interest, and so that is all well and good there!
My laptop is confirmed, and currently In Production! My Chill Mat was even delivered early.
Now what's scaring me is, the estimated delivery date? 11/01/13!!! That's almost a year from now!! I'm freaking out a little, because I need someone to tell me that is not going to be correct!! X____X
If I have to wait almost a year for my laptop to be finished, I might as well save up the money, and buy it without the installment plan!
I sent an email to Dell just in case, but in the mean time, has anyone else had this? Surely I can't be the only one with an installment plan..
-
-
I'd imagine they are quoting it as DD/MM/YY, as in, the 11th January 2013...
-
Oh my god.. I am so sorry, I didn't even think about it like that, I'm so used to them putting the month first, and then the day O_O Thank you very much, I feel much better now~! ^__^ You've been very helpful, and I really appreciate it~!
-
Mine had an oddly far-off date as well. But it came in about 2 business days. I don't know why that is.
-
Dell Customer Service is absolutely awful.
It now transpires that the operative that told me delivery in 2-3 days yesterday was lying.
I'm now told they are out of stock of the 900p screens and I'll be lucky to get it by my original EDD of the 17th.
Honestly, if it doesn't turn up by the 17th I'll be cancelling the order, I'm sick of getting the run around from their CS staff. -
Really sorry to hear that mate and I hope it isn't the case. You never know with these Dell reps at the end of the day so it may still turn up it in time. Fingers crossed for you.
Seems to be luck of the draw really for these builds as they seem to keep zero stock which makes business sense but can lead to delays. -
I'm going to spend my morning at work repeatedly contacting their chat staff and tally up the different answers I get. Then I can take a majority verdict as to if it's delayed, on its way, made out of cheese, or whatever else they feel like telling me....
-
Good way to drive yourself insane that is! Hopefully they can clear it up a bit for you.
Well my latest update is that it is being held in Koeln Germany because of this :
'Package not released through clearing agency system - document inspection required '
Here is the full tracking breakdown :

China 05/01/2013 4:54 Order Processed: Ready for UPS
Hopefully is just a minor hiccup and it will still arrive tomorrow, looking dubtful though. I would have been amazed if it shipped from china to Scotland in 3 business days! -
Amusingly, assuming those are all local times, there is a 5 hr time difference between Kazakhstan and Germany, so it arrived in Kazakhstan 5 mins before it was "not released" in Germany?
-
Yeh clearly a balls up there. It must have been through Kazakhstan on its way to Germany but just wasn't updated correctly or something. No matter, I just hope it finds its way to the UK at somepoint today.
After looking a bit more into it it seems sometimes these orders will go from Germany to Kazakhstan....no idea why (unless its customs related or seomthing) They don't exactly take a direct route these things do they? -
It appears it did indeed go back to Kazakhstan. All is green again though so it could well make it tom.

The package never left Kazakhstan before 18:35 Departure Scan on 08/01/2013, as described, the papers had to be inspected by the clearing agency first and
the your package is now on it's way again, it certainly didn't go to Germany and then back again... -
Ahh ok. Latest update was that it now arrived in Poland and has now been cleared by customs in Germany. I'll still be surprised if it appears tomorrow. Quite fun watching the updates though I must admit!
-
haha, I know that feeling, I couldn't wait too until mine finally arrived and I checked every now and then where it already was, good way of wasting time
-
Mine has now been shipped according to the website! I figure that if yours was shipped sat and looks like it will appear Friday, I probably need weds/Thurs off next week....
-
Great news! Mine has now landed in Edinburgh this morning so it looks as though I could still receive it today. Might take the day off!
-
Haha good luck! I'm pretty jealous at this point!
The annoying thing is that I had to have it home delivered because of the finance, when had it been on for delivery to work it would be much simpler. I can see myself ending up having to collect it from the depot at this rate, which is fine but means a delay!
My UPS tracking number doesn't work on the UPS site yet, was yours working Saturday or did it not work until Sun/Mon? -
Hey. If I recall, I got the dell email in Saturday morning but the ups tracking did not get updated until Monday.
-
Label has been printed according to UPS. Assuming it gets collected by them today, then UPS's online shipment tool says it will get to me by either Friday or Monday depending on which service they used.
I'm thinking I might be calling in sick to work on Friday....
EDIT:
ETA Friday!
Shanghai, China 09/01/2013 21:50 Export Scan
09/01/2013 21:50 Origin Scan

Congrats! Mine just arrived 30 mins ago
. All seems in order after a quick boot up, gotta head back to work for now but at least I have a new toy to play with when I get home.
Update - got her set up and all was working fine so set about fitting my 256gb msata and did a clean install. First time I'd done something like this but it went flawlessly and the laptop is running great. Fans were quiet even during benchmarking and is running super fast. Highest temps were 64 gpu and 63 CPU so so far it looks good. Will install a few games and play around Tom. Very happy! -
Mine has now left Kazahkstan so we're on course for delivery tomorrow, day off work arranged!

How you finding yours?
-
Superb news!
Finding it great so far, super fast and built very well. I have an evening of playing SWTOR ahead of me to check how it compares to my M11x.
-
Just ordered my M14x R2 on 1/02/13
As of now it's still in production and the estimated delivery date is 1/16/13. Hopefully it will ship soon, I can't wait to get my hands on it.
-
Ups website lists mine as out for delivery but on speaking to the depot they are not sure the driver actually has it.... If it doesn't turn up after I've taken the day off work I won't be impressed!
-
I'm sure it will turn up. Enjoy the suspense
-
It's here!!
My god, so pretty....
The first time a laptop has come with so little bloatware I actually haven't re installed windows. Besides, I like the login screen etc! Managed to make windows anytime upgrade accept a technet key so it is on Ultimate, installed apps etc.
I have to say I'm impressed with the battery life, this thing has more power by a mile than my old m1730 with a core 2 extreme cpu and two 9800GTs in SLi, and yet has been on battery for 3 hours so far and is still over 60% charge.
Having gotten used to an SSD on my desktop I am missing it on the laptop however. I'm bordering on either swapping the 500gb drive for a spare 256gb Samsung 830 I have, or going to Novatech down the road and buying an mSATA SSD right now... except that they only have 128gb ones. Although to be honest, 128gb would probably be fine.... -
Glad to hear it! Just as an observation I reinstalled windows on a new drive and was pleasantly surprised to still have all the alienware login screen etc there after installing all the drivers. Must come as part of one if those.
Have fun! -
Slight issue, the alienware logo below the screen doesn't light.
Took it apart, discovered that the tiny cable had been damaged (apparently in assembly) - http://i.imgur.com/5xRGW.jpg
Reassembled, going to call tech support.
It's such a minor issue that I'm still happy though! -
Sorry to hear that but I'm sure they will sort it. I always keep that part off anyway so it wouldn't bother me. Just think its a bit too much when it's on
-
Send me a PM with your service tag and I'll have your new rig up on its feet in no time
-
Haha it's very much up on it's feet already!
I phoned Dell Tech Support after posting here, to be completely honest I was dreading doing so, expecting it to take hours and be really awkward, but the guy was amazing, efficient, and it went really smoothly. I've got a booking in the evening after work for a tech to come and replace said component on Tuesday, and they haven't charged extra for an evening appointment etc.
I have to say I'm really impressed with Dell's tech support thus far. They were apologising for it taking so long to get someone out, but it's only a light I can still use the machine!
In the meantime I've fitted a 128gb SSD and rather than reinstall windows I'm using it as a cache drive (although only 64gb of it obviously as Intel don't allow more). It's made a big difference to the responsiveness of the machine.
While my main desktop has a 7970 and a pair of 40" monitors, I'm actually using the laptop in preference to it!
Next up is for me to try to mod in a 3rd WLAN antenna and then find a 802.11ac mini-PCIe card... -
Ordered mine today and it says the estimated delivery date to be 02/04/2013 ! Excited
-
I also ordered a m14x with an estimated EDD of 2-1-13. Excited and ready to join the Alienware club. Been also contemplating a M11x purchase too just as a spare. We'll see though
-
Awesome! What components did you choose?
-
I ordered the one with i7 3610qm, 500gb, 1gb gt650, 900p res, 6gb ram!
and I actually received an email today saying its already been shipped!
but i checked the status site and see that its still in production. any idea? -
I got the base i7, 12g ram, 2gb video, hi def + screen. Status says it is suppose to be delivered tomorrow which is awesome!
-
When did you order yours? I checked the status its still in production. But I gave dell a call they said its done with the production and the order will be shipped anytime soon. So excited! I just ordered it like 3 days ago.
-
I ordered last Thursday on the 17th, got an email monday sayi g it was shipped but didn't get a tracking number till yesterday. Tracking number says it shipped from southern California so shipping to me in northern Cali is faster I assume.
-
Ah I see, sounds great! When did you get the email? I got it this morning. So the email is just like a "false positive hope"?
-
It will probably take 2 days as it did for me for you to get a tracking number
-
It has been 4 days since I received the email saying my M14x is shipped. I just called Dell, they said the unit is still not in the US yet. It will only be shipped on the 31st. Sucks but there's nothing I could do. Really taking forever!
-
Hi! I am currently waiting for my new M14X R2 to be delivered! I can't wait!!
I ordered on Feb 1:
1 Alienware M14X R2 - Nebula Red
1 63WHr 8-Cell Primary Battery
1 AlienFX Color, Quasar Blue
1 8GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz
1 8x SuperMulti DVD+-R/RW SL OD
1 3rdGen Intel Core i7-3630QM
1 NV GF GT 650M w/2.0GB VRAM
1 14.0" HD+ (900p/1600x900) WLED
1 Windows 7 OS Label, AWNB
1 750GB 7,200RPM SATA-II HDD
1 64GB mSATA caching SSD
1 Win 7 Home Prem 64 SP1,Eng,w/Media,AWNB
1 AW Command Center M14XR2
1 Killer Wireless-N 1202 MIMO w/BT4.0
1 Steam Factory Installed
I will be using it for homework and gaming for GW2 and a few other games like Skyrim and NFS. I've been trying to use an HP i5 laptop but it gets so hot on the wrist rest that I could easily get a burn, so I'm sincerely hoping the M14X will not have any heat issues. -
Nice build! Here's a link in case you want to Check your Order Status
Will you install the OS on the mSATA or use it as a caching device? -
I had originally intended to have the OS on the 64GB mSATA, but maybe it's better to use it as a caching device? Can someone tell me which is better and why? I don't use any intensive programs other than the games I play. Otherwise I'm just using Word and Excel. I'm very novice on computer tech stuff but try to read a lot to understand what I'm doing.
-
I'd use it as a caching device, it's already set that way and you'll notice that boot/loading times are very fast.
-
Thanks. Does it make a difference that when I ordered it I chose the option under "boot drive" rather than "single drive"?
This is going to be the longest day ever! My AW is set to be delivered tomorrow. Taking the day off so I have lots of time to set it up and test it out. -
Hmm..then I guess it'll come with the OS installed on the mSATA but I'm not sure to be honest.. Anyway you'll get it tomorrow
! If it comes as boot drive and you want to change that just let us know
-
I'm really happy with how fast my system shipped. It's being delivered 5 days ahead of the estimated date!
-
Despite being 5 days early, i've had my system for 6 hours ... 6 hours of tech support. Still not up and running yet. I doubt I will be able to use it anytime today. Not too happy. I've never had a problem with a computer right out of the box until today.
ETA: 9 hours in and still not working as it should. Tech support people seem good but I really wish the system worked out of the box... like every low budget computer I've ever had. -
That's disappointing to hear that you're having problems already. What problems are you having?
