Here's a link to dell beep codes. It might be your cpu isn't seated right because its beeping 5 times on post. Call dell asap imo.
Ubuntu Forums it's a linux forum but POST beep codes have no link to the OS being run.
Hope that helped some. -
I am having the exact same problem, and it happened straight out of the box (received mine three days ago.) I called Dell and they asked me to run their trouble shoot scan (which came out fine) One of my friends from work who is a crusty old tech took a look at it and told me it was most likely an issue with the motherboard. He said it could be something as simple as the cmos battery being either loose or faulty, or it could be the whole motherboard that needs to be replaced.
Either way when I provided this info, the alienware customer service group scheduled a tech to come out to fix it on Tuesday. The rep I spoke with said it sounded like a pretty easy hardware issue to fix so fingers crossed that is the case. -
Ok guys this is a follow up post.
I sent the m14x to dell for repair. I have received it and the issue is considered fixed. BUT....
Now when I hook my LCD tv up via HDMI all I get is a blank screen. The computer recognizes the external display with accurate resolution and refresh rate yet the TV is a blank screen.
What I have done so far:
1.Reinstalled win7 and drivers
2. Uninstalled/reinstalled more current drivers
3. Change HDMI cables
4. Hooked it up to a TV in which I use another laptop on and thus is known to be working.
Any ideas? UGH!!! I've had this less than a week since repair and it seems I may have to send it back again!
ANY IDEAS??!?!??!? -

Does your TV support HDCP? Sounds like the sort of thing that happens when you try pushing an image over HDMI to a non-HDCP compliant device. -
Yes it supports hdcp. I just don't understand why I'm having so many issues.
M14x Problem... sooo ANNOYING. Any ideas?
