Why does it make that sound where it thinks a disc has just been loaded whenever i freaking open a program or play a damn music files or videos?

It gets annoying after awhile and it keeps on doing it lol. Anyone knows how to fix that w/o disabling the optical drive?

Presumably, the program you are using is trying to access the optical drive to see if there is a disc there that has media there that can be played. This causes the optical drive to check if a disc is inserted, as a trayless device, this makes a noise.

I don't use whatever program you are using, because I only hear that noise when I turn the computer on, usually. You could check the settings of whatever program you use to see if there is list of what places it checks for media, so you could remove the optical drive from the list.

This is true, that is the reason why it does it. It is just a power saving feature present in the m14x that enables the ODD only when needed.

Frank_L is currently working on this case, but it is completely different. About the optical drive issue on the 1st link, the answer is above.

I now count 20 people that have reported the issue and the last time I contacted Dell the reg fix they applied failed to fix the problem.

If your not sure about the sound this is what it sounds like: Alienware M14x R2 Spin Up Noise - YouTube
    The sound can be heard at: 00:37 , 01:36 , 02:35 , 03:35

The sound will continue until the battery runs out or until the AC charger gets plugged in.
There were no applications running just the blank desktop.
