Well is in the UK, not sure about anywhere else (not checked)
Specifications look good and the option for dual HD's, Blu Ray optical, GT650m Nvidia 2Gig and up to 16Gig 1600Mhz DDr3.
Is it wrong that i am hoping the motherboard fails again so i can get a refund to get the r2?
-
It is out here in the US as well, video card is the GT650m. The CPU's did not change.
-
the blu-ray slot drive is the only thing i am interested in. i wonder if you can buy that separately and if it will fit the R1 m14x.
-
Have the CPU's been upped to the sandy bridge variants?
-
The GPU interests me..how much performance can I expect over the 555?
And it looks like there is no more M11x on the Alienware site..... :0
Did they just discontinue the M11x???
A new GPU, and more memory seem to be the big highlights of the revision -
Who would ever need that much ram?
Apparently yes, no more m11x...Too bad cause I was really considering buying one. -
lolz after seeing this news i quickly rang dell and cancelled my current pre production m14x r1, lucky they take their time in making them lol!
Just rang up and made a m14x r2 with blueray and the new graphics card!
Bit more pricy, but what do you expect
A bit annoyed the sales rep i rang 2 weeks ago didnt tell me that the r2 was just a week or 2 away -
only good news for R1 owner is availablity of a blu ray slot loaded drive
dual HDD is a scam by them. they are putting in mSATA SSD card in PCI-e slot next to the WIFI adapter. max stated speed is Read: 200Mbps - Write: 40Mbps
I guess they didnt move towards ivy bridge maybe to wait some more for prices to go down. Since i am sure that with the new GPU, motherboard layout and related stuff must have already been updated. All they would do later on is put in ivy chip -
Due to the new GPU's, that means a new motherboard also. I hope they fixed all the issues with so many dead motherboards on the current r1...
I cancelled my Dell Outlet order due to the many reports of dead MB's, dead GPU's, and CPU socket
It was a really good deal but I can't afford to be down often sigh. -
No idea. More of a marketing scheme
-
2. If they did I'm sure they are not allowed to tell anyone unless it gets officially announced. -
Like buying a ps3 and a week later the ps4 gets released xD -

the new cards any better? wonder how mucha blue ray will be hmmmm
-
i hope the card is decent enough cuz it has to support blu ray now
-
i dont know for certain but i think going from DDR3 to DDR5 is all i need to run ff14 on semi-high specs to full specs. im pretty mad i bought mine R1 2 months ago and now i seem to be fairly SOL.
-
Does Dell, or Alienware have some kind of trade-in program where I can send my M14x R1 back, get the new R2 and pay the difference?

Lucky you ! -
there has to be some way to get my GPU upgraded
it would be a huge hassle and loss to sell the R1 then order an R2
-
Hi, everyone. I am new here
luckily I hold myself until now, instead of ordering a R1 one week ago. Probably there is a minor improve ignored, that is the integrated bluetooth 4.0 by default. I am quite happy with it since I have some bluetooth devices.
Considering that the first release of ivy will be 4 cores i7, I guess it will be quite pricy...even now I don't find an option for i7 2670qm. Paying 200 pound from i5 2450m to i7 2760qm seem to be a waste. -

Just gotta make up my mind now i guess lol -
i need to call and see if there is any way they could help me lol. its driving me nuts since just yesterday i was telling someone that DDR3 was my only regret with getting the m14x but a ddr5 wasnt an option
-
Things are moving on this thread : http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...-r2-m18x-r2-coming-speculation-thread-96.html
M14xR2 may get Ivy Bridge on monday.
I don't know what the performance gain from gt555M to gt650m GDDR5 will be like and I'm waiting to get more info on this to make up my mind about upgrading. -
-
Anyone else a little dissapointed thats it's only a 650M?
Hell you can get that in a 11.6" CLEVO too, was expecting at least a 660M.
Hopefully there will be some AMD options too. -
Do you know how the 650m should compare ? -
IVY bridge GPU got a huge boost, so nvidia had to make their 640-650m range more powerful or no company will buy them, the lower range is already obsolete since Intel GPU beats them
Here is Acer 640m (DDR3) with crapy CPU compared to m14x with 555m and Quad high end CPU 3d mark 2011
Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M3 Specs, Performance and Benchmarks -
and thats just the DDR3 version?
-
Comparison of Nvidia graphics processing units - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
anandtech also got another review and list it precisely as DDR3 not DDR5 for the GPU

They probably canceled m11x for a reason, if you want m11x performance pretty much plenty of laptops will fulfill that need with basic intel GPU now.
M14X even with 640m would do much better scores duo the better CPU (acer laptop got a CPU bottleneck) -
I see the alien changed up their laptops lately and I have some questions about the remade m14x one.
Video card: would buying the second one make any noticeable difference then the first one? (it would save me money if I get the first one)
1 GB DDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 650M with Optimus
or
2 GB DDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 650M with Optimus
Wireless cards: what is the difference between these two and which would be better for just to use around the house?
Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 2230 With Bluetooth 4.0
or
Intel® Advanced-N WiFi Link 6250 a/g/n 2x2 MIMO Technology with WiMax and Bluetooth 4.0 -

She did say it could take 30 calendar days to receive the refund but also that that is something they just tell the customers as a NLT date and in my case as soon as they receive it they will go ahead and approve the refund.
She kept saying "In your case" lol They do all they can to make it up to you when your order is delayed apparently! =)

After doing some reading im convinced we should wait another week or two before ordering. Im gonna be returning mine before then just so I can get the process started on my refund. Then after the 29th (The supposed release date of Ivy Bridge) Ill see what kind of options are available and go ahead and order.
Acordning to CNet Anyone who orders one right now is a sucker lol ALTHOUGH Seeing as how the ship dates are set to May 17th They could offer the upgrade option at a discount when Ivy Bridge drops.Hmmmm...
-
lol i just got off of chat with an off shore sales rep, he forwarded me to a best buy trade in site where they would probably give me like $50 for the machine. not at all sure what i should do now >.<
-
There goes my resale value.
-
Must.. resist.. selling..
-
Must.. resist.. buying..

So whats the point of it now? It most likely has the GT650M GDDR5, which will perform very nicely, but the 11 inch Sager NP6110 has the same exact GPU. I mean I understand a lot of people will still buy it, but cant you just get the same thing in a smaller package? Seems almost like a waste now. Maybe the fan will be super duper quiet though.. Lack of GTX 660M is disappointing I have to say..
Also lets hope its not DDR3. Imagine how embarrassing that would be -
1 GB DDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 650M with Optimus [Included in Price]
2 GB DDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 650M with Optimus [Add $100.00 or $3.00/month1]
Alienware Recommended
It already tells gddr5 so no worries. The thing I am curious is that how much performance increase with respect to gt555m? -
Well it seems like the GT 640M DDR3 is about on par with a GT 555M (DDR 192-bit in our R1), so Im thinking about GTX 560M performance being very possible.

Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
Clevo and other companies are taking preorders for the new ivy bridge machines they can't just list the CPU yet due to intel terms
So basically if you order now a 2760qm you get 3720qm on any of the Alienware machines that's why the ship dates are like 5/17 -
Yeah Speedy this is exactly what they and other resellers have been doing for actually sometime otherwise they cannot list anything for preorders, but i guess people just do not understand how to read between the lines so to speak.
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
Thanks Quad I was quite impressed the company's do this because is confusing to the customers but it makes sense they want to start selling machines I also think that's why they lower the nda to the 23

hey guys.. new here , just wanted your input and suggestions on my little issue please! so here's whats going on.. i ordered my m14x almost a month ago , the one with
8GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz
Intel Core i7-2670QM 2.2GHz
NV GeForce GT555M 1.5GB VRAM
got it for 1400$ luckily but now I see the R2 just came out.. is it worth my time to ship this one back for full refund and then get the r2 version with the 2 GB DDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 650M and the updated hard drive that comes with the 32GB mSATA Caching SSD ?? also comes with the new sound option of Creative Sound Blaster Recon3Di .. is the new 650m gpu and the option for a 32gb caching ssd ( prob to boot windows on ) really worth me shipping back?? because if it is , I don't mind waiting till next month to get it.. thanks -
If you bought it 1 month ago didnt your 21 days full refund return passed?
I am in the same condition as you, but I need the GT650m vs GT555m comparison to give a decision -
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
You basically answer your question with all those improvements I would say yes do it
