Sorry if this is a repost. I used the search and couldn't find recommendations on where to purchase RAM for a m14x. I just purchased a M14X and will mainly be using it for gaming and 3D Modeling/Animation.

I know that newegg seems to be the popular place to buy ram, but with all the different brands and numbers, I'm lost in what to purchase. If there are other upgrades you recommend, please reply! I'm a complete noob to PC as I've been a mac user my entire life! This is my first PC! :)

    Here are the specs below:

1 225-0790 Alienware M14X - Stealth Black with Soft Touch Finish
    1 317-6679 Intel Core i7 2720QM 2.2GHz (3.3GHz Turbo Mode, 6M cache)
    1 317-6669 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz
    1 331-2069 Alienware M14X 150W A/C Adapter
    1 320-2228 14.0 High Def+ (900p/1600x900) with WLED backlight
    1 318-0644 1.5GB DDR3 NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M using NVIDIA Optimus technology
    1 342-2567 500GB 7200RPM SATA 3GB/s

hmmm I've heard of some performance issues with hyper x 1600 under performing around 1333. Is there much difference between 1600 vs 1333?

there is difference to my knowledge, and the issue your talking about is basically how the i7 2630QM only supports upto 1333mhz ram, but you have to go into the bios and set it up to use its full potential

    Hello hello.

Just a quick question. Thinking of upgrading memory in laptop to 8gb but not sure which model/brand would be the best to buy.

Could anyone give me advice please?

    Thank you very much.

Sorry, i'm going to ask another question (without creating a thread).

I'm ordering my M14x during the first week of January and i was looking to replace the RAM with some Corsair Vengeance. Just wondering if anyone has used it other than the Kingston alternative

    Corsair 8GB Vengeance 1600MHz

    I ordered some...

    Kingston HyperX Plug n Play 8 GB Kit (2x4GB Modules) 1600MHz DDR3

...and it installed in under 5 minutes, and worked great right out of the box. I don't do a lot of high-stress ram work on my M14x, but I do some movie editing, lots of gaming, and some major amounts of alt-tabbing from games...has worked much better than the 4gb.

I'm getting a refurb M14x from Dell w/ the stock 4gb of ram and was looking into upgrading to 8gb. This is what I was looking at from Newegg
I was wondering how this would work for both gaming and everyday tasks. I saw a number of threads talking abut it but I have the i5-2430M not the i7 and was wondering if it would make a difference. Also does my processor use/support XMP?

    Newegg.com - Kingston HyperX 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 HyperX Plug n Play Laptop Memory Model KHX1600C9S3P1K2/8G

    This is what you want.

I have 6 GB stock in my refurbished machine as well and have been tempted to upgrade. It's just that I haven't found the need to up from 6 to 8 yet.

    Hello fellow M14x owners,

    Just a question regarding RAM.
A couple of days ago my one of my memory sticks died on me, kept causing BSOD's before it went.

I've taken the sucker out, and reinstalled a corrupted windows - now my laptop is running great. Seems faster even.

I want to prepare for the worst in case the remaining stick follows the path of it's brother - should i order a replacement stick from dell or not bother and buy a different stick from the factory provided ram.
For those that have purchase a different (4GB) stick to replace the original one, which model did you go for?

Cheers and thank you for taking the time to read this.
