I noticed today when I logged on to Steam that it downloaded an update for Skyrim. Anybody any idea what it was for?
I need to find a cure for my vampirism - it's forcing me to role play! You'd think it was a RPG or something.
-
WHen you first contracted it you shouldve got a Cure all diseases potion from whiterun, easy fix. And yeah I saw the update too, it wasnt scheduled till after Thanksgiving
-
Whenever I try to launcher Skyrim with Steam, which leads to the SkyrimLaucher. When I press Play, it keeps on re-opening SkyrimLauncher. Do I have to reinstall skyrim?
EDIT Problem fixed, for some reason the pathway for launching Skyrim got mixed up. I hate to re-install. -
GearsGuy - I've just sent you a friend's request on Steam. Hope this is okay? I'm new to Steam and my friend's list was empty - I need some friends!!
-
After a long quest I managed to cure myself of being a vampire. Freedom at least. To anybody else who contracts it - if you want a cure seek one before 3 days are up as you can cure it easily. Any longer than this you will need to embark on a quest to cure yourself.
-
If anyone else experiences this problem,as i also did, rather than re-install the best way around it is to :
Launch steam,
go to games library,
right click elder scrolls v skyrim and select properties,
choose local files tab at top,
choose verify integrity of games cache,
wait for it to verify then after it quits out steam will download a tiny file,
this file will reset your display settings but the launcher will work again,
finally, enjoy
-
did anybody else have the bug where esbern dosent speak
-
This is NOT the 1.2 patch, it simply fixes a security issue between skyrim and steam. Which now enforces steam to be opened to play skyrim, yes DRM.
-
This is what I'd read about the patch:
Bethesda has released the long awaited patch (patch v1.2) for PC version of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. It weighs 18MB. The console version of the patch will be released on November 28.
One important thing all Skyrim PC gamers need to know about this patch v1.2, Skyrim won't be compatible with the LAA fix (mod to use more than 2GB of RAM) after you apply this patch.
This patch will be auto-downloaded next time you start the Steam client. In addition, Skyrim will now require Steam to run in the background. Check out the complete patch note below.
BUG FIXES
General optimizations related to stability and performance.
Essential followers recover properly if player fast travels away.
Fixed rare instances of dragons flying improperly though objects after player exits an interior.
Fixed rare instance where the a music track would not stop playing properly.
Autosave message properly displays when going through a load door.
The fifth level of the Light Fingers perk correctly calculates the Pickpocket skill bonus.
Enchanting an item to improve the Sneak skill properly calculates the bonus to the players Sneak skill.
Enchanting an item to improve the Lockpick skill properly calculates the bonus to the players Lockpick skill.
Corpus Enchanter perk properly calculates bonuses to stats for the players new enchantments.
QUEST FIXES
Fixed rare issue where a character would not arrive properly to the Thalmor Embassy during Diplomatic Immunity.
Rescue/Attack on Fort Neugrad will trigger properly if player travels to Fort Neugrad by foot.
In To Kill an Empire, Gianna will now talk to player with certain diseases.
Fixed rare instance of Civil War battle not starting properly if player receives a Companions quest from Farkas.
During Brelynas Practice, fixed rare issue where the player could be permanently invisible.
Triggering combat in Largashbur no longer stops progression to The Cursed Tribe.
Fixed rare instance where fighting a Civil War battle during The Fallen would prevent the Jarl of Whiterun from accepting their axe in Message to Whiterun.
In The Horn of Jurgen Windcaller, fixed rare instance where Arngeir would not teach player the last word of Unrelenting Force.
In Taking Care of Business, fixed issue where Brynjolf would not give player this quest if Talen Jei was dead.
I'd also read that Steam needs to be running for the game to play. I'm new to Steam and the whole PC gaming scene so not really sure what the problem is with this. -
That info is wrong, it is not the 1.2 patch. The 1.2 patch will be released near or on the 28th.
Those fixes are from the 1st day one patch. Check out bethesda official forums for more info where i frequently post. -
I stand corrected.
-
Installed the inventory mod. It looks good. I've (hopefully) attached a pic to show it.

that looks quite decent i may snatch that up
-
It is quite confusing as many sites immediately interpreted that patch or fix to be the next major patch, but simply stops users from running skyrim directly from the exe bypassing steam. Allowing piracy to take place if the files are then copied and that exe is used. Surprised bethesda let that slip through tbh.
Anyway how is skyrim on the m14x? I jumped over from the xps forum to see how it runs for you guys. Since the m14x has the same gpu as my xps. -
Anyone tried this: Skyrim Better Performance - UI - Skyrim Mods - Curse
-
i saw this a while back but dont see how it can improve your performance. I'll tell you what, ill try it now and will report back.
EDIT: Doesnt do much and it says its broken when extracted. -
So I can't play offline anymore? -
Yes, along as you were launching skyrim from steam before, ie preparing to launch game window comes up, then nothing has changed for you.
-
I did both, bu I prefer offline. I launch through Steam only for the achievements.
What if I have the disc in the drive? Do I still need Steam to connect to my account for the launch to take place?
Did EA buy Bethesda last night??? -
I havent tried it but im pretty sure you can now only launch through steam, i can confirm it DOES still work offline as i just tried it.
LOL no i dont think they have enough money
-
Well, this is coming from somebody who has played console games for the last 4 yrs and not done any PC gaming in that same period - I think Skyrim runs very well. In comparison to the 360 (I've also played Skyrim on the 360) the graphics are far superior. I haven't experienced any choppy gameplay (other than when I first started but whitelisting the Skyrim executable solved that).
However, I cannot make any comparisons to other desktop/laptop setups so I suppose my post isn't that helpful.
-
Nah, its helpful. I feel skyrim runs very well tbh especially overclocked. And thats with lots of bugs etc which have yet to be fixed by bethesda. Many people with powerful desktops cant even get good performance let alone play it.
But overclocked on high settings tweaked, i average around 40-55fps outside and about 50-60fps inside. But outside it does vary quite a bit in places. Temps get quite high, with cpu at 85c and gpu at 75c. -
I've not checked my temps because I have no idea on how to do so. Any tips? Do I need a discrete program to do this?
I have noticed that my power pack is burning hot after playing for a while. I reckon you could fry an egg on it. -
Use this program CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting many use it including me and says current, max and min temps when running the program, great to use when gaming.
-
This is very upsetting.
I bought the game, on disc. Not from Steam. But because of this patch, which doesn't even fix the blue/purple textures bug, not only is not possible to play without an internet connection (according to the article), but mods will be unusable? !!?? -
You only need a connection when activating, after it can be played offline as much as you like. No, mods WILL be usable, this patch altered the exe only stopping users from bypassing steam and from the encoding, it has resulted in no LAA (large address aware) which allows the game to use more than 2gb of ram which has helped some users with crashes. But why bethesda didnt make it a 64 bit app in the first place is beyond me, which would allow more than 2gb of ram to be utilised. But this is a bit irish them releasing this patch considering it says it recommends 4gb of ram on steams store page.
And it does say at the bottom of the disc box it requires steam and a internet connection. -
Thanks - downloading now.
-
As already mentioned above - mods still work. My Skyrim downloaded and installed the patch the other day. Today I downloaded the inventory screen mod (see earlier post) which works. So, mods must still work.
-
After about 2 hours of playing on default high settings, I get the CTD. I immediately relaunch Skyrim, and I get another CTD after about 5-10 minutes of playing.
This is a known issue, but is this software or heat-related? I didn't experience this before unless I was runing Skyrim through Steam, and now that I don't have a choice, I'm worried.
Any suggestions? -
Many users are experiencing crashes so i think we just need to wait for a patch. Mine was also working fine but now it sometimes crashes after fast travel. Well no it doesnt crash it just closes it self down somehow. What temps are you getting?
-
I'm having the same issue, crash to desktop every 45mins or so. Although frustrating it at least stopped me playing last night so I could actually sleep before work! I had two unintentional all nighters last week before work - made the day go much more slowly when the only thing keeping me awake was copious amounts of caffeine....bad skyrim
-
I have no monitoring tool for my temps at the moment, only FRAPS for FPS.
To the touch, it gets warm but not hot. Like holding a mug full of fresh coffee by the sides instead of the handles, if that makes any sense.
I'd say around 75C tops, maybe?
I have a family so I rarely play more then 2 hours at a time, so I don't think it ever reached over 90C, even while playing GTAIV.
After my previous post, I did some research and this problem is all over the place. It seems like since the latest patch, sneakily downloaded and installed by Steam (is this even legal, since no one has asked me before installing something on MY 1.3K machine???), EVERYONE is getting these shutdowns.
The next patch is next week though, so maybe Bethesda/Steam will solve this major issue AND the blue/purple textures. -
If you want to monitor your temps use cpu id hardware monitor. And yes of course its legal as you have to have steam set to auto update to download patches like that. And you'll probably find something regarding this in steams terms and conditions which you accepted when you made the account.
-
For those having problems with the goofy CTDs every 45 min or so; mine have almost completely cleared up since applying this: 4GB Skyrim at Skyrim Nexus - Skyrim Mods and community
It's great. Also, I've found a lot of good from applying this ugrids tweak here: Quarter To Three Forums - View Single Post - Skyrim: mods and tweaks
Distant objects look a lot better now, and the game still runs beautifully.
I'm still trying to find the right balance of tweaks to get it running ALWAYS above 30fps while at 1600x900, but otherwise, this game is freakin' amazing. Love playing it on my new m14x! -
Oops, double post!
-
The 4gb enabler was meant to be stopped in the last patch so your saying its working now? You have redone it since then?
-
Seems to work, after this week's patch!
-
TheSpaceHamster Notebook Consultant
It's a different 4gb patch than the other one; or at least it works different. It doesn't modify the .exe directly anymore.
-
Nope. It runs a shell around the original .exe. You have to click the new file to run the game, but it works fine with Steam. Everything is normal, other than clicking another file to run the game. Read the readme if you're confuzzled.

A new nvdia beta driver 290.36 out!
NVIDIA DRIVERS 290.36 BETA -
Here's some tips from Nvidia for Skyrim,
Guides: The Top Five Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Tweaks - GeForce
All work VERY well, I lose about 8-10fps average using these - including Ambient Occlusion however running it at 720p seems to negate that drop slightly. It makes the game look sooo beautiful
-
well driver actually helps me. the stuttering i get in whiterun isnt that bad anymore.
-
I lose 10 FPS with this new driver. I even dropped AA and shadows to medium.
-
I had the same problems. Was really peeved about it all. And then I realised I didn;t have my laptop plugged in! Now that it's plugged in I do think the game looks and runs better.
-
Mine's always plugged in.
-
If I'm just surfing I run the laptop on battery (providing it has a charge). I plug it in when I game (or at least when I remember).
-
Anyone know if the 1.2 patch also kills the resistances on PC as well, or is this just a console issue?
-
has anyone installed 1.2 yet? on the bethesda forums its red hot on fire complaining new patch completely messed up everything....
-
Resistances are disabled and dragons fly backwards.
