    Hello

I've searched the internet but struggled to find the answer to my question, probably because it's not the brightest of questions.

Would I be able to use the Windows 7 disc, the one with the alienware picture on that came with the laptop, on a different laptop? Basically my Dad wants to wipe his laptop but has lost his disc and wanted to know if it would be ok to use mine but I thought I'd check before he did. His system also has 64bit windows.

    Thanks in advance.

    no.

with my inspiron recovery disc i was able to load up a dell tower before...but when i tried installing it on a non-dell computer it popped an error. keep in mind this was a long time ago.

if he has a dell, id give it a shot...worst case scenario you just get an error message before anything happens.

It wouldnt hurt to give it a try, however I dont think it will work, because by my experience install Windows through that disc, it seem to automatic fill in the product key that tied with the laptop which mean the Disc can only be use with that laptop. Though this is just my opinion. But like I said, it wouldnt hurt to give it a try.

I would download Win7 SP1 image from internet (which is legal), all you need is original Win7 key for the laptop you want to wipe.

I downloaded image and installed Win7 SP1 64bit Home Premium version on my M14X and it is the first time I had no problems installing on my SSD. It is much faster (by 30%) install compared to Dell original Win7 (no SP1) extracted to USB (both extracted to USB and compared speed of install).

    peace

I do not think it will work

I swapped the stock HDD for a SSD and the windows setup was never successfully loaded since day 1. I was not bothered with the disc anyway coz I got a retail pack of win 7 ultimate handy anyway. But like c69k said, it can be downloaded from anywhere. Just make sure you got it from a reputable source.
