    my specs:
    2820qm, 3gb vram, 1600x900, 500gb 7200rpm (295gb used) win7 home prem, about 20 icons on desktop

from when i press the power button until the desktop is loaded up, it takes about 2-5 minutes to load to the desktop and have everything ready. this is pretty slow for a 1,800 dollar laptop with high specs. anyone know how to boost your bootup time? if i had an SSD drive, how much faster will it be? any suggestions? thanks

and, what are your bootup times on ur m14x's? please list specs too =)

Check your start up manager (msconfig) uncheck the ones you don't need upon boot. I just upgraded to an SSD and my boot time lowered down to 20seconds.

    specs:
    2630QM, 1.5vram, 1600x900, 128gb ssd, 500gb 7200rpm, win7 pro,

Well from the press of the power to the log in screen b/c I still need to type in my password. It was about 23-28 seconds. The desktop itself boots pretty fast everything loads up within a second or two. I also don't have a lot of program running from the start. Just the necessary things that will be needed upon boot.

    This basically.

An SSD will certainly speed up the boot process but if your system is taking 2-3 minutes now a SSD will still take around 1-1.5 minutes to fully boot. It simply sounds like you have a lot of background processes loading on startup.

Mine takes about 23-28 sec as well to go from off to log in screen I would definetly check your startup services, but i would use services.msc in the run window not msconfig. Also defrag HD, and also clean and defrag your registry.
