    Hello again,
I finally decided to purchase an SSD for my m14x r1. Looking to go with the Samsung 840 or 840 pro. The problem is that I am running Bios a06 and hear that I will not get full SATA 3 speeds on it. Cant anyone confirm this? Is there any workable remedy for this or should I just ditch the R1 and get an R2 instead?

    Thanks in advance!

Installed the Samsung 840 Pro 512 gb ssd in my m14x today. It runs as sata 2 speeds. Disappointed to say the least. And I've been reading that the modded bios a08 isnt very successful at giving sata 3...

Is there any fool proof way to get sata 3??

That's the only way I know. Sorry about the inconveniences. SATA 3 was disabled to avoid any issues due to stability.

get the R2! you should even be able to argue for a free upgrade, given that they advertised SATA III in the original user manual, and it doesn't actually work. i got upgraded to an r2 for this very reason :]

Well you would have to make a case you were mislead on purchase.

The M14x r1 was never advertised as SATA III capable, here's a shot of the user's manual page 105.

Our engineers unlocked SATA III on a later BIOS revision but found that it wasn't stable so it was locked for the following versions.
