ie take out the dvddrive (that nobody really uses) and use that extra space to put in a more powerful 3d card (which every m14x user can appreciate)
it seems to be common sense to me, why would dell not do it?

As long as a USB disc reader attachment is an option then I don't care what they do as long as they manage to stick a GTX in there without it melting. Then again, with the disc reader, the weight is the same as the Sager NP8150 and equally, if not more, awkward.

i use the dvd drive

Well, it needs a Blue Ray drive.
So the R2 should have a better GPU (556m GTX?), a Blue Ray drive, and a perforated aluminum bottom panel for ventilation. -
bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
I like to see a better bottom panel for all the alienware models not just the m14x. Seems like if you raise the back end of the laptop, you get a 10C drop no matter what machine you are talking about. It would be nice if the fans had better ventilation so the cooling could be even more effective

Well, but first they will have to get rid of the heat issue first, because even with the GT555M, sometime the laptop can easily overheat already, so I wouldnt think they would allow you to put in the GTX series as it would just melt on the board, lol. But I will do appreciate if they have option to throw in a GTX series, however if only they get rid of the heat problem first, otherwise, no thanks.

well, my thinking was if they removed the optical drive, they'd have more space to dissipate heat

if they could integrate a duel fan system that would help a lot, one for the CPU and one for the GPU like on the m17x. -
I think getting rid of the optical drive, putting a more powerful (560/570) video card, adding another fan so the slot on the right isn't a fake and using whatever space left for the battery.
Maybe also use the grills as actual speakers and move the keyboard closer to the screen so the trackpad can be made bigger. -
I hope you dont mind that i ask ...
I keep reading propping up/raising the back of the laptop but i dont get it ...
What do you actually do ...
just put something beneath it ... ?
The laptop was shipped yesterday ... -
I use a book, about 1" thick, to prop up the back of my M14x. I place it between the 2 fans.
I've had this for 3 months now and it never overheats. I don't think I ever reached 80C.
Good, cheap tip here, people! -
The left fan on the bottom sucks in ALOT of air, and the bottom of the machine is basically flat so thats why elevating brings such a big difference.

Thanks a lot ...
I'll be trying this once I receive my laptop ...
hopefully next week ...
M14xR2 should remove optical drive and install more powerful 3d card
