So..... Last Wednesday after three arduous weeks of waiting, I unboxed my new 14. Less than two hours later, I am on the line with customer service. Here's what was going on.
The front speaker (only) was working. I connected my headphones and the left and right speakers would start to work. No sound would come out of the headphones. I would disconnect the headphones, and only the front speaker would be working again. Dell had a technician stop by to fix it on Monday, but replacing the speaker didn't work. I will say that I didn't experience the horror stories that I've heard about their customer service. They have been helpful and seem very motivated to find the problem. Replacing the motherboard was discussed, but the decided to have me ship it back to them. My 14 is currently with them and had better be fixed soon, I am thinking about taking the refund they offered and going Mac. I am very surprised that something this big would pass through their Quality Assurance department.
In addition to the speakers, my side lights were not of equal color. One was always brighter than the other and it rotated based on the color.......
Anyone else having similar issues?

bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
Sounds like a bad Motherboard to me. I'm sure it will come back fixed. my system has been to the depot several times over the years and has always come back fully repaired.

How to you go from a gaming full fledge cpu with a high end gtx card laptop to a mac? If you did that then that means you never intended and never needed a gaming laptop to begin with so you need to find out what your priorities are with a laptop.
Now for your audio issues, if you really wanted the AW14 then you would let Dell/Alienware fix it since you like the AW14 right? So why give up and go for a Mac lol unless you need Mac OSX. -
Here's how, guy. I have a very limited time before I get on a plane for the Middle East. I need something built well to endure the suck I'm about to embrace. I had what I wanted in the 14, but if it doesn't work out, I can have the other in my hands before I roll.

Here's how, guy....... I have a very limited amount of time before I get on a plane to the Middle East. I had the laptop I wanted, but it may not be available in the amount of time I have. I need a well built and durable laptop to endure the environment we will be blessed with. If the issue isn't resolved quickly, I can have the other one in my hands before Alienware can have a replacement shipped out. Now, let's play nice and not be judgmental.
Major audio problem on the new 14
