As far as I can see, the new Alienware 14 has a max memory of 16Gb, using two SODIMM slots.

Also, as far as I can see, there are no 16Gb SODIMM modules being made. Doing searches here and elsewhere, I have not been able to find out if these will be made.

IMHO, designing a brand new machine that maxes out at 16Gb is not smart. Unless it will use 16Gb SODIMM modules that would take the max to 32Gb......nothing in the Alienware specs gives a hint. In fact, the specifications page I just found, on the Alienware website, said the max memory is 8Gb! Duh!

For video editing and running virtual machines, the extra memory can make a huge difference.

    Anyone know if:
1> there will be such a thing as a 16Gb SODIMM module?
2> if there is, will the Alienware 14 be able to use it?

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere - I did search this forum, and did not find any direct references to the topic.

I think the new chip-set supports up to 32GB of RAM. They maxed it at 16GB considering the 14 inch form factor and Heat+Power concerns???

Heat and power has nothing to do with it.

Food for thought. Newegg has no 16GB sticks of RAM. To create sticks that dense i think they cost too much.

hey, at least its not a new retina MBP with 8GB soldered in. I can make do with 16, but 8 is crippling. I currently have an r2 with a 8GB set of 2133 HyperX and a 16GB Corsair 1866 kit. I generally run the faster set, but often swap to the 16GB when I need to run a few VMs.

The max is currently 16GB due to the availability of sticks, though 32GB (2x16) wont have been verrified even if they do come out (they may wait for DDR4 now).

There are no sub 15" machines with 4 dimm slots AFAIK.
