I am wondering what is the max memory speed supported by the M14x R2.
I am going to order 8gb ram and dont know if the m14x r2 supports 1866 or just up to 1600.

    1. Max memory is 32GB support by the CPU, however there are only 2 RAM slot on the M14x, and as for current tech, we only have a max of 8GB per RAM stick, so 16GB is your max, unless someone manage to make a 16GB stick that you will be able to max out to 32GB :p.
    2. Yes the M14x will be support the 1866, as I saw some of the users here who has a R1 already got the 1866, and since R1 is a predecessor to the R2, I'm sure that the R2 will support the speed as well, however feel free to correct me, as I havent try it myself and intend to try it later in the year.

    That is correct, 6144MB DDR3 1600MHz (Upgradeable - 16GB 1600MHz Max)
But, if you were to finagle 32GB, you may want to also upgrade the OS to alteast PRO or Ultimate when doing so, as you may see some issues there.

If you go to this website you will be able to pull-up your computer's manuals for specifications.

As for my internal records this are the specs for the memory.

Memory module connector Two internally-accessible DDR3 sockets
    Memory module capacities 2GB, 4GB and 8GB
Memory type up to 1600 MHz, dual‑channel DDR3
    Minimum memory 4GB
    Maximum memory 16GB

As CGSDR explains, some people have tested the 1866mhz memory on their computers with success but at the moment we only recommend 1600mhz.

Why doesn't the Dell spec page list the 12G config as compatible? I assume it used two 6G sticks, right?

    There are no 6Gb sticks.
    12Gb in the M14x is obtained by combining a 4Gb with a 8Gb stick .

@CGSDR Yup you are right , m14x-r2 support HyperX - PnP 1866mhz rams , no tweak needed , plug n play.

That makes sense...I put 1.5 GB in one of my old SDRAM computers: two 512MB sticks and one 1GB stick. I tried doing a similar thing to my original Game Boy as a kid only I mixed alkaline with nickel cadmium batteries.

The ensuing explosion was both painful and pretty cool at the same time...(both my hand and the Game Boy still work some 17 years later.) I wish batteries were like RAM lol

The RAM 1866mhz worth the extra money?

No , not worth it on m14x , I don't see any fps gain on m14x but m18x.

Basically 1333mhz rams works fine , hardly notice the differences.
