I just got Skyrim and it only plays on medium quality. The game is laggy and doesnt look too good. Is there anyway I can change this?

Or is this video card not good enough to run Skyrim smoothly?

Have you white list the game in the NVIDIA Control Panel? The GT555M is never been known to run any game smoothly, so expect some laggy experience in game, it is best to tweak the setting like turning off those AA, motion blur (If applicable). And if possible Overclock your GPU to get more fps from the GPU.

the game looks just fine whitelisted on my m14x on high settings. you shouldn't have any problems after you whitelist.

On first start up for me it did not recognise the gt555m and auto selected the intel chipset, after whitelisting steam again and the exe file it has worked fine on high,i get 38-42 fps according to fraps while playing on high setting, with aa changed to 4x and fxaa turned on,been running like a dream, which is great because this game is the reason i bought a new laptop!

Do you have to whitelist steam itself or just the game .exe (like Oblivion.exe)?

just whitelist the game, in the config menu only the intel card will show up but that's OK

I found setting on "high" at 1600*900, turning off antialiasing then going into advanced and choosing "fxaa" works best in my case

I have the same problem. What do you guys mean by white listing the game? I did try to set Skyrim in 3d setting of nvidia so it would only run on 555M card, but it didn't add the game. I'm playing on external 24" screen and if I want decent framerate and smooth game I have to play on low setting :/

@Fattyboy - Many sites have started optimization specs for that exact video card. To give you an example i run no the m14x with the 555mGT 1.5 on Ultra Settings, low blur, high shadows. outside fps is 50+ and dungeon fps is 60-125 depending on water/enemies. So performance is not an issue. My native resolution is 1366x768.

I dunno how u did that, with my settings I still drop in the low 30s, when ever I crank up the shadows past medium, the frames stay at around 30-40, and my card is overclocked to 700 mhz.
