I might possibly be getting an m14x r2 soon, but I'm a little hesitant about it. I have an r1 and it runs like absolute crap. I can hardly play Diablo III on awful low settings, and I've tried several times using different drivers, made sure it's running on the nvidia gpu, etc. Overall I'm just very disappointed with the performance of it, even though it is the base model and I did not expect much I expected more than what it's been giving me. So I may have the chance to exchange and I'm honestly wondering whether or not it's worth it to get an R2 or to ask for my money back (if they'll even let me do that).

I just really want a laptop that is not going to give me so many problems and have considered even just getting an asus ultrabook for mobility instead of gaming. I'd love to keep an alienware, but I'd like to hear from the r2 owners if it's worth it in their opinion. Thanks in advance.

Well I've been running into some GPU issues. The games all run very well when they aren't freezing. I had a problem before and it went away, so I have a feeling this one will also work itself out soon.

I think most problems will be fixed once an official driver is released from nvidia.

    Besides that I've been happy.

R2 owner here! My opinion? The M14x R2 runs Diablo III at highest settings with no problems whatsoever. Among my 3 Alienware laptops, the M14x is the one I prefer using. It's not too big and not too small. It's just right. Definitely worth it.

    Thanks for your response.

Glad to hear that for the most part it's running well. I really wanna balance portability with a little bit of gaming which would be great, unfortunately the r1 didn't give me either of those really. I don't find the m14x too bulky so basically I'm just looking for it to run well in general. It seemed when I have mine, it would lock up a lot, overheat, and mostly just kind of slow.

That's good! I wonder why mine couldn't shell out any power towards that game.. hmm. And of course if I call Alienware and tell them it's not running games properly they try and get me to pay 300 bucks to talk to a 'special' tech support.

Glad you like it though, I think if I can get an SSD put in mine and possibly the 900p screen I will be extremely satisfied. If not I might consider looking elsewhere.

I've heard a lot of issues from R1 owners but a lot less from R2 owners. I'd say go for the R2 because chances are you won't get another bad unit like your current one.

I'm assuming my GPU issue will get fixed so I don't regret my purchase.

No problems at all with the r2 playing diablo and other similarly demanding games
