I recently received an M14x newly built and noticed something a bit disturbing. The left hinge is misaligned and therefore slightly protruding from its socket. Basically if you look at it from a top view you can see that the left hinge is sticking out a little bit while the right hinge lays flat relative to the back. I searched around for m14x hinge issue posts and found what appear to be extreme situations of mutilated and destroyed hinges.

My question is should I call Dell about the issue or should I wait it out? Could this evolve into those cases of hinge related death I found in my searching?

I would call Dell immediately and get them to give you a replacement.

Since you just got it, you could also ask if they could give you anything for your inconvenience and get 50-100$ back or a free M14X accessory such as the backpack (which they've been doing for several ppl with a damaged M14X out of the box).

Good luck and let us know how it turns out :)

The thing is I don't even know if it's damaged. It is not noticeable unless you look at it on its side or from a top view, and its more to do with the connection of the hinge itself being misaligned. Since each hinge has two parts that kind of snap into place, that is.

I will keep an eye on it for a couple weeks and report back.
