    Hi all!

My alienware m14x r1 is now coming up to 2 years old and I was maybe interested in refreshing with the newest model that is out at the moment.

My alienware at the moment has the following specs

    i7-2760QM
    16GB DDR3 RAM
    GeForce GT 555M
256GB SSD for OS + 500GB HDD in caddy.

The model I was looking at has the following specs

    i7-4700MQ
    8GB DDR3L RAM
    GeForce GTX 765M
    1TB/5400 RPM + 80G caching mSATA

Budget is around $1800 depending on how much my current Alienware will sell for.

How much performance increase would I expect too see over my current alienware? Also I don't game as much as I used too so I was wondering if it would be worth going for another alienware or drop down to something a little cheaper ( recommendations would be welcome ) since I may not need that much graphics power now?

    Thanks!

Save your money since gtx 860m Maxwell is just around the corner. Wait for R3 and just keep using your R1 unless it's already broken.

You will see a major increase in graphics performance, and the performance of the processor will improve too. That configuration sounds good for what you are looking to pay.

I just made the upgrade from an M16x to AW14 and have had some problems. Windows 8.1 is apparently not supported yet. Didn't realize that until I loaded it. It's literally 3 weeks old, freezes, crashes. Every boot something crashes mainly Realtek drivers. That Alienware console doesn't respond well, freezes, and won't switch screens.

I am going to try rolling back to win 8 and see if that helps. But if this is any indication of long term performance, I am not happy.
