    Hello newbie here.... :hi:
I have recently become a new Alienware owner of a (2nd hand) M14X R1 core i7 and whilst I am very impressed with the device as a whole, there are some issues with possibly my local computer store where I have purchased it from and I would like some input and technical info from the (other Alienware) owners  out there please.

This is the main issue; when the machine (M14X R1) was purchased two weeks ago there was a small horizontal scratch on the screen. Which I assumed was part and parcel of buying second-hand. Then after one long usage session, I noticed that some of the residue that came from my hands transferred onto the wrist pad and then transferred onto the screen. Roughly where the bottom keyboard bezel and touchpad are and this mark lined up with the horizontal scratch.

If the wrist pad is touching the screen there will be more damage to come....So back I went to the shop. Where the owner stuck a piece of paper over the touchpad area, closed the top down and said "look no witness marks" can’t be touching “that much”

After I had ‘uncurled my toes’ I told him that it was a very interesting scenario, but not proof that the problem did not occur before delivery. Then offered to stick something to either the screen or the wrist pad, so as to avoid further contact...as you would use a sticky-plaster to skin blemish!

As I find it difficult to believe that such a quality machine would have been designed this way.

Can an owner of a M14X R1 please check if this is how their unit is please?

    Also

This machine (M14X R1) seems to have a lip all the way across the top of the keyboard area.

Does the back of the keyboard are rise up to the skull in the middle like this one?

Could this mean that there is a problem with the seating of this keyboard assembly or worse an issue with the chassis?

At this stage the unit has not been disassembled by me, beyond fixing the ribbon tape for the disc drive which had a broken retaining clip. If my ‘home-grown’ fix did not work the unit would have been returned already, as this is where the extra storage will be even though it will be a transfer speed of no more than SATA I (1.5Kb/s).

As mentioned the unit is second hand so it came as a bare unit (with its original power brick) and not exactly free from any marks or scratches. So could not be considered that it will become a collectible unit one-day, this I am okay with.

Sorry if this is too long for a newbie first poster

    Thanks in advance :)

They aren't designed like that. The keyboard is not meant to touch the LCD. I've seen people saying that it does leave some prints on the LCD, but they are mostly related to residue of their fingers.

I'd give it back unless it was a real steal, because you can also get some great machines from eBay.
