I really am starting to think that Optimus is more of a pain than a help. For one how do you know if a game is using the 555 or Intel graphics? When I just ran a benchmark for Just Cause 2 it says intel after the benchmark run not Nvidia. I realized at first that my refresh rate was set to 40hz by the Intel card as well, not 60hz
I just went to try out GTA IV and I cannot change any of the graphics settings it is stuck at 800x600 for resolution. If anyone with experience with Optimus can give advice it would be appreciated.

Go to control Panel, click the Nvidia options(i don't recall the exact name), then add the .exe file of that game to one of the programs that default to the 555.

I'm pretty sure the M14x Optimus issues are the same as the M11x's. So you can use this as a guide. -
Did you try changing the graphics settings for each game via the Nvidia control panel?
EDIT:Arklight beat me to it. -
I'm running games through steam and it is already added to the .exe file to us the performance graphics. Have either of you tried to run GTA IV with Optimus?
-
No GTA IV for me. Try setting the Global Settings to Nvidia performance instead. You're plugged in right?
-
Yes I did that as well all other games seem fine so far except GTA IV so it's not that big of a deal. Thanks for the tips.

Check the link that I posted, they mentioned GTA IV there.
No problemo. -
Did they ever fix the issues with optimus and punkbuster?
-
They said they did. But I use my desktop to play BFBC2..

I just read in the benchmark thread that Witcher also has problems with Optimus I remember this from my M11x days as well. I returned the M11x mainly for the screen but Optimus was very frustrating back then as well.
Now that I have my M14x I can't believe they are still having these problems, I really don't want to return this machine too. I really love the form factor of this computer and the screen is much better then the M11x. The size is more suitable to me too compared to the M11x. -
Honestly it pisses me off that they didn't put a GTX GPU in the M14x and give it manual GPU switching options like the M11x R1. You could still get the good battery life when you needed to and you would have a laptop that lives up to the Alienware name.
