I was a little sketch buying the 2630 over the 2720 as I almost always go with the middle end, but I am taking people's words on the processor. It should be here on the 16th!!

Almost the same spec as me, I just upgraded the proc to a 2720 and took the bluetooth option. Anyway good choice for specs and congratulation!
-
xbox 360..?
-
I didn't see anything about that I've heard about it though
-
Oh yea I have Bluetooth I just didn't post it

Anyone know the deal with the xbox??
-
The deal with the Xbox is usually only with pre-configured laptops. For example for the m14x, the preconfig laptop they were offering to my knowledge was 1399 + xbox.
If you are lucky you can customize your own and ask for a xbox. -
I called in my order, and they were happy to add an xbox to my custom build (which cost less then 1399). If your sales rep tells you they can't do it, ask for a manager, because they can.
-
How much was the student discount? And how do u get it?
-
The student discount should be around 2%, you just provide them with the school you are attending and a valid .edu email address.
-

Plug in your student email address and it'll take you to the promotion. -
Would it be too late for me to get it because I ordered it already?
-
Another member (Trulok) called with his lower-specced machine and they added the xbox to his order. I'd rush to call a sales rep to see if you can get in on it too. If at first you don't succeed, hang up and try again, otherwise ask to speak with a supervisor, as he mentioned.
Here's his thread. -
Dangit I will try although I'm at my university orientation today and tomorrow so I'm not sure if I have the info needed to do it
-
All you need is the name of the university you're attending, your student email address, and your student number (or the same information of your children, if you're not a student yourself, just so other people on the forum know
)
-
I just placed my order today and I tried calling back to add an Xbox. No dice, apparently they can only offer it at the point of sale and not after. Sounds like some BS to me but if you have any luck please update us
-
It might be just with certain configurations. Trulok was successful in adding his after purchase with basic config besides the 900p screen (which the bundle deal includes).
Don't give up! If you fail with one rep, try another! -
I'm curious to what Trulok said to the rep. Cause the rep I spoke to was very vehement in his stand on the xbox deal being only applied to the pre-configured systems. And when I brought up Trulok's situation they basically gave me the generic answer of "He must have had a pre-configured system". Mehhhhhh...

Try calling back and saying that you've changed your mind and want to cancel/return the laptop for a refund, I've got a feeling that might help.
Btw, in the US, do you get slapped with any charges if you return it ASAP (from where you are right now) except for maybe shipping back? And how fast do they start production? If you ordered it today it doesn't feel like they've starting putting it together. -
It would really suck if they really did cancel it and just see through my bluff. I can't be like "I was just kidding about the cancel my order lol"
-
They will try to stick you with a 15% restocking fee. You can get out of it if you mention all of the issues you have with the laptop though (I'm sure the battery issue alone would be enough). I don't think they charge you for shipping it back to them, but wouldn't doubt if they tried.
-
Then why not just cancel it and re-order but "demand" an xbox this time? Call around to a few different reps if you don't succeed at first. I mean, worst case scenario; you'll get a no and receive the same order you're expecting now, only a day or two later.
takeabyte: So the time-frame doesn't matter much, you'll get hit/threathened with the restocking fee if you want to cancel an order, no matter when you do it?
edit2: IIRC you can see your order status @ dell, so if it says there they havn't started building it yet, you should be cool, no? -
Called 5 reps, all a no go.
-
i believe this is the case. unless it's Dell's fault you're returning (damaged equipment, etc), they will try to stick you with it.
-
Ah, that sucks a lil bit, but as you said you could always blame it on the battery and what not. First time I feel that we get something for the big extra premium here in Sweden, for example our consumer laws dictate that you have a full right of returning a product bought online within 14 days as long as it isn't damaged, it's not much but yeah.. ^^
Abao: Have you probed around a bit regarding a possible cancellation/return? Might be getting a bit tiresome for you now but I'd stick with it and give it a coupla more shots, and not let "them" win.
-
That's the thing about the cancellation. If I wasn't in a situation as I am now, I would take my sweet time canceling and returning and waiting to get my xbox included. However I do not have the luxury of doing so because my macbook pro died and I'm desperately in need of a new computer before I leave for my internship.
-
I called and could indeed cancel the order, make some sort of employee account, and reorder, but I have two xbox 360s so it's really not worth my time in delaying the order
-
The rep was unsure if he could add the xbox on to my order. He put me on hold for about 5 minutes while he talked to his manager. When he came back he said that it wouldn't be a problem but he wanted me to sign up for the payment plan (12 months zero interest, and zero extra fees) He said he'd rush order the first bill and I could just pay it off in full (or wait a year if I desired). He said he was unsure if I could do a custom build with a free xbox unless I signed up for this plan... I simply signed up and 5 minutes later I had 2 order numbers.
It does sound odd... sorry I forgot to mention this payment plan thing before.
(I forget what dell calls it..)
I have a brand new xbox sitting in my living room.. and my m14x is set to be delivered tomorrow.
Hope that helped. -
Ah I see so you signed up for the DPA account.
