I need more fps in SC2 (competitive 200/200 battles in 2v2 is a struggle) and was wondering if there is any way to OC the CPU beyond what the bios provides either via modded bios or CPU. My CPU temps never go above 80C.

My post doesn't add anything but I didn't think SC2 would tax the i5 so much. I played SC2, 1v1, 2v2, etc. but the never did it bog down on my 1st gen C2D. Guess I should give it a try again =3

The sandy bridge CPU supplied, either i5 or i7, aren't unlocked, meaning they cant be overclocked. Remember both cpu and motherboard has to support overclocking as well. I could be wrong, but I haven't really seen any mobile processors that can be overclocked. But overclocking your gpu will help you a lot. Do this at your own risk though, I usually overclock via MSI afterburner 750/1500/1050. But you have to watch temps, artifacts, etc, and see if its stable for you.

yea OC the GPU not the CPU, there are an unlocked sandybridge cpus, the 2920 and 2960. They aren't really feasible in an m14x though because of the already persistent heat issues.

SC2 is cpu bottlenecked. OCing the GPU yields no benefit on FPS. in 200/200 army battles of lings muta storm colossi banelings etc. it taxes my i5 dropping the fps to around low 20's.

you have turboboost in the bios on? this would impact performance
-
yea turbo boosted and bios overclocked with the throttles set at their max TDP etc.

I use the i7 CPU, and the turbo boost is useless (except for it will help get thing done faster) it doesnt really impact on performance much though, because I have test it, on BFBC2, with the Turbo Boost on, the temp is constantly climb to near the fatal 100C which is between 90C ~ 99C, even with a cooler on. But when I turn the Turbo Boost off, the temp seem to stay at between 71C ~ 89C instead, and the framerate I get is the same 35 - 50fps. So I dont think turning turbo boost off would impact the in-game performance instead it would help keep the temp down as well.
Oh and the WEI score also stay the same with Turbo Boost on it stated 7.5 and when i turn it off it still say 7.5 after I re-run the test. For OC the CPU, I do not recommend doing it because without OC you still get a high temp so if you OC it, it will be worse. -

he has the i5 though, so I didn't know if it would help or not, wonder whats causing such poor gameplay for him, the IGPU?
