I guess the next, and probably biggest question, is: should I even bother?

I keep thinking about having a 1080p display at 14", and it being so small that its hard to see anyways because so small.

Get the IPS display. It is significantly better than the standard TN panel.

Honestly not too big a deal but I would go IPS if you had the choice and its not too much more expensive

I am going to get the IPS, I just have to wait for them to get a matte one in stock (no way I am getting a glossy one). It is only $10 more.

you should ONLY choose for TN if you care to have a 120 or 144Hz display that is relatively cheap.
Otherwise, especially for me IPS is WAAY superior. IPS has a lot better color reproduction and has very good viewing angles. a TN panel can have Very bad viewing angles.

For me IPS all the way.

I'd also strongly recommend the IPS panel - it's a no-brainer if there is not much difference in price.
