I'm looking to add more RAM. Where's the best place to buy? Can someone link me? Thinking of going to at least 6, maybe 8. Thoughts?

What is the current amount of RAM you have now? Because there are only 2 slot of RAM on the M14x, so the max is 8GB (unless someone invent a 8GB RAM stick, lol)
-
Are there 4 gig sticks already??? How much how much
-
4GB + 2GB is more than enough for gaming. 8 is overdoing it unless you do heavy Adobe/3D work
As previously linked in the gaming forum section:

Hate to break it to you, but someone already did invent an 8GB RAM stick.
Newegg.com - CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory Model CMSX8GX3M1A1600C10
Not only that, but 16GB RAM is already an option from Alienware on the M14X build. -
Just go with 8. Its dual channel so itll run faster, its not that much more, and you wont have to upgrade again for a while. Itll be the standard soon enough
-
Sigwolf this is awesome +rep ... your first post lol

If you have 4 get 8
If you have 2 get 8
8 Gb is 30
4 Gb is 20
Ram upgrade is not even fraction of the cost of m14x.
8Gb stick go on sale around $55.
Above price assuming US. -

^^ Yes, Fry's had a 2x8Gb Corsair kit for 109$ a few days ago

That's good then, but as I expect, it is kinda too expensive for now, btw rep+ for the info., but there is one question I forgot to ask the OP, what are you going to do with that much RAM? Because I have 6GB atm, and it is more than enough except for when I do some video editing/processing.
One more thing, if you going to upgrade more than 8GB, make sure that the CPU can support it, however for most CPU that offer on M14x, the average max is 16GB for the standard SB CPU, and 32GB for the Extreme Edition. -
No problem at all. I've been researching laptops for months, and finally decided on an M14X. It should be here before the end of the week, and the waiting is driving me nuts... I only went with 8GB, btw, which I know is more than I need at this point. I tend to keep computers for the long haul, so I like to leave room for expansion, but I figure if it can handle 16GB, I can upgrade it myself at a later date if need be. 8GB gives me breathing room without me needing to think about expansion for awhile.

Gearsguy explained it correctly. If you need to upgrade, its better if you go for 8gb instead of 6gb. because with 8 gb you have two modules of 4 gb each which run in dual channel synchronous mode . If you get 6 gb, that would be like 4+2 and runs in asynchronous mode. I dont think there is a stark difference in performance but since you are already going for an upgrade 8gb makes better sense due to its dual channel cycle and future proofing for now. Even in future, i guess if you want to sell your RAM modules for further upgrade, you will get better deal people look for similar modules like 2+2 or 4+4. If price difference is not much ( and i am sure it is not) then i would strongly suggest 8GB.

Go for 8, may as well with the prices currently. I just got some of these the other week and they kick :
