Hello guys, I had to replace my Seagate HDD (750 Gb) a few days ago due to its crash. They sent me a WD now, everything installed and running again, but...is there any way i can recover my data from the damaged one? i'm looking for a "homemade" solution...yes you got it...i need it cheap...

The problem i had was that the system wouldn't start, then alienware analysis and as result it gave my HDD failure...so i replaced it.

This is my first post and i probably suck at giving details, so, if anyone can help me i will provide with any single detail needed.

Wheter you help me or not, thank you all and carry on, because though is my first post i've been following this forum for a couple of years and i find it great.

    Cheers,

The cheapest way is to use a recovery program. Like RecoverMyFiles.
But nothing is free, price for programs designed to recover data can vary from 20$ to 100$+
Freeware programs can be very limited.
    ,
This is cheapest/easiest way, assuming your drive is still alive, and just sectors where your system was, were broken/damaged/unreadable, this happens time to time, and the rest of the HDD Data is ''easly'' recoverable.

If the HDD is not detected by BIOS, or makes funny sounds, then you are in a world of trouble.... $500+ for Lab Recovery depending on how much data to be recovered.

Flinging, thanx a lot for your answer.
Well, my HDD is not making any strange noise or the like and, about the bios, i think it recognises it. When i had the hdd on my mx14, i would start the thing, showing me the normal screen, then the typical "starting windows" screen, and the it'd be stuck in there forever. So windows is not starting but the system knows the hdd is there (at least is what i think). Do you think the recovery program worth the shot?

You can also use an HDD caddy to connect it to another PC via USB.

using Remo Recover. It is recommended by industry experts due to its
outstanding performance in recovery of all types of files every time. You
