Hey I feel like there may already be a topic on this but i tried searching and found no results so i thought id make one. First off i havent gotten my m14x yet sadly but from what I have heard the fans can get pretty loud, especially while gaming. My question to any current m14x owner is, is there anyway to reduce the fans from kicking in as loud. Im going to have this laptop next year in college and if im just taking notes in a class, I cant have a loud fan come kicking in right in the middle of a lesson, that would just be horrid. I was wondering if there's anyway in the power settings to make it use the least amount of power possible that way i can use those settings for classes and not have the fan kick in? Because people have been saying even when not gaming from time to time the fans kick in and theyre loud for like 30 seconds, well 30 seconds is a long time when everyone in the classroom is staring at you and your loud laptop. I know the fans are necessary and i wont mind them while gaming, but if im just typing in class or in the library or something it would be a real shame for them to disturb other people around me. Any suggestions? Or is this just something all m14x users will have to live with until the next BIOS update or whatnot.

I have heard you can control the fans with HWinfo but I dont yet own an m14x to test. If you do go that route, you will need to be monitoring temps.

I plan to get one and use HWinfo as well as turn off TB (as this really pushes up the TDP) for my sofa gaming sessions :) I need to be able to keep it quieter while gaming in the lounge or would get serious grief from the wife

No way, you will get max 4 hours if doing browsing or word editing, if you dawn load and watch films you will get 3:20

I had mine for over a month and never saw 5 hours at all average is 3 hours

and for the fan noise no to worrie it only works on gaming
