I have an Alienware 14 that shipped almost exactly a year ago.

It was built with the low resolution monitor and I would really like to get a 1920x1080 version and replace it. I would also like to take out the optical drive and put in a second hard drive but need a tray that holds the second drive.

Does anyone know a good reputable place to buy these parts at? Should I buy them from Dell? I am not even sure if that is possible and am pretty sure they are going to charge a fat markup if they do.

    Thanks!!

    Sam

If you have warranty, a good idea to buy from Dell.
If you don't, well, buy that screen. laptopscreen is a great website for finding screen panels. parts-people also have screen panels too.

My warranty expired on Sept 18, 2014 so it is no more.

I will buy the one from laptopscreens.com, I did a bunch of research and they seem to have a good name and I chatted with someone from there for a while and I like the way they do things.

Now if I can find the tray that replaces the optical drive so I can have a second internal hard drive life would be good. I am thinking of getting 2 SSD drives and doing a raid on them.

You could keep the ODD if you bought an mSata SSD and a normal 2.5" SSD - of course, same capacity and Sata III would be ideal for a RAID array.

Your the second person who has told me that. I need to see how this works, I didn't think there was room for 2 drives without taking out the optical drive.

Nice.....and the 7mm equivalent is cheap, too: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s 1x nm Samsung Toggle DDR 2.0 3-Bit MLC NAND Flash Memory (400Mbps) Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) - Newegg.com

You could grab both for a 500gb RAID array for around $250, which is roughly equivalent to the price of the 500gb normal SSD: SAMSUNG 840 EVO SSD 500GB MZ-7TE500BW 2.5" SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive - Newegg.com
