Ok so whenever I hook up my M14x through my HDTV, the picture and sound is great and I love it.

But whenever I close the lid, the resolution changes I think and now the fonts and icons are pretty small and sometimes not readable. It's connected to a 37' tv btw, 90% of the time I can read fine but there are times when I have to get closer or squint my eyes. My tv is already at the end of my bed where my feet are...so it's pretty close

How do I disable it so that it stays the same as the default?

That's just the resolution adjusting for a bigger screen. When you've got your laptop screen open and the external screen on, it will use the resolution of your laptop screen for your big screen by default and thus the icons will be really big. When you close the lid, it switches to external only and thus raises the resolution to fit better on a bigger screen.

However if you don't like the higher resolution, right click the desktop --> screen resolution and change it to a lower one. Depending on what screen your r2 has, changing the resolution to 1600x900 or 1366x720 will make it the same as when the lid is open (same resolution as your laptop screen). Alternatively, in the screen resolution options box, there is a link that says "Make text and other items larger or smaller" which will let you keep the high resolution the screen is meant to have but increase the size of the icons and stuff so you can read them better

Also as a side note, pressing Windows button + P repeatedly will let you select whether you want the display on your laptop screen, your external screen or both screens or make one an extension of the other. Sounds confusing but try it and you will find it's actually very simple

"Make text and other items larger or smaller"
Will that work for games also?

I don't think so. Most games will have an option in the graphics settings that will let you select the resolution for that game
