So after owning my M14xR2 for about a month, I've noticed pretty much every corner and leading edge has started to peel off. I just carry it in my backpack, in a separate compartment. I'm not particularly hard on the laptop, I just take it out and put it back into the backpack about 2-3 times a day.

Anyway, regardless of how it happened, the defects are bugging me a bit. There was a thread a while back about repainting the M14x, but I do not want to go to that extent. It would require a complete teardown, and paint doesn't stick very well to plastic. I doubt that finish will last much longer than the original rubber coating.

So my question is has anyone tried completely removing the rubber coating and just leaving the plain black plastic underneath?

Thanks, I will post in that thread then. I guess what I was really wondering is what does the plastic underneath looks like. It seems to be identical to the one on the bottom plate, which to me would be an improvement over scratched and damaged rubber coating. But I could be very wrong, and it may look worse. :)

How about stowing it in the velvet sleeve it shipped in? That's what I do.

Wouldn't it be wrapped in the sleeve, if it was boxed? Or how are outlet models packaged?

It comes in just a box with the computer supports and charger if I'm not mistaken. Worth it though for all the money you can save though. ;)
