I got the Intel ssd 510 250gb last week, I installed it with no problems, and 4 days ago when ever I start the laptop i get a message on bootup,
Windows Boot Manager
Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer.
This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive while the device is in use, or by faulty hardware such as a hard drive or CD-ROM drive that is failing. Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer.
If you continue to receive this error message, contact the hardware manufacturer.
So I unplugged my optical drive praying that it was the problem and I started up my laptop today and got the same message.
What should I do?
ps i bought it from newegg.com http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820167043

Hi Kingtairon. You're not alone, I had the same boot up problem, My ssd 510 worked the initial two days and then constantly gave me error code 0xc000000e9 when booting up. I have to boot up several times before window 7 loaded! Then every things fine until next day. Further, I had problem installing window 7 on SSD, it installed very very slow, say 2 hours, and failed at about 70 percent most of time. Sadly, Dell refused to replace the mother board and insisted that they don't support any third party hardwares! Crap.

i also have this hard drive. i havent used my system yet. will get back to you guys in 12 days
-
This is crazy and scary at the same time I paid $650 for that damn thing. I emailed newegg 6 hours ago and still waiting for their reply.
-
could a windows update be the problem? because like you said it was working fine for a couple of days for me as well.
-
could be caddy problem as the error message mentioned about cd-rom drive, which is technically your hdd caddy.
I am using intel 510+X25-m G2 but getting same message. What is worse is the system is sometimes not responding like my cheap $150 netbook with 8gb crap ssd. I may try a different caddy and let you know. -
Fortunately I can say that the OCZ Vertex 2E 240GB has served me well for the past weeks, no boot errors
, just had to make sure that Intel Storage thingy wasn't installed otherwise it's a trip to safe mode in order to remove it, that prevented my boot up. Sounds to me like a Windows Update is downloading and installing on your laptop which in turn is then causing this mess.

It's not the caddy problem as I used my 510 SSd with the original Dvd driver. Oddly, it works just fine with the HDD shipped with the machine.
I tried OCz Agility 3 and Solid 3 as well. They won’t boot either. The only difference is that the OCz SSDs wont boot up straight out of box. The harddisk LED constantly light on indicated that the SSD working hard on something when the windows 7 booting, it will hang on the booting forever and I have to press the alien head to shut it down.
The Intel SSd is another story, it works the first couple of days which makes me feel safe, then constantly fails at booting and gives me error message OX00000e9. -
The HDD works fine with M14X. But we also suffered from the SATA 3 performance issue don’t we. People who have their SATA3 ssd working on their M14X will notice the performance difference between desktop and M14X. My intel 510 only worked on SATA 2 speed with RST. That’s for the first two days. Then it gave me booting error constantly.
My guess is that Dell doesn’t use the reference design that intel offered, rather used their own solution which cause the Ultra ATA controller doesn’t work well with the high speed SATA 3 devices. Oddly, the DVD driver is only on a SATA 1 channel while HM67 should support 2 SATA 3 channel already!
Another thing I noticed when I had my Agility 3 booting into window 7 is that though I achieved the SATA 3 reading speed like 500MBs plus the write speed was only 140 plus. Also the windows 7 WEI gave me 7.8 while it was 7.9 on my desktop. -
have you tried flashing the firmmware on the ssd? it worked for my ocz vertex 2 when i was having problems with startup/booting
-
Yes my Firmware is up to date. I would get the Boot manager error 2 to 3 times before it actually boots up to Windows and I'm starting to feel like this is a M14x problem not intel, But I might be wrong.
-
I am still getting this boot problem and its driving me crazy I can not even put it in sllep mode because it will fail on start up
-
just to add a bump. i'm going to finally be able to test mine out tomorrow. i'll let you know. 510 ssd 250gb
-
also, sorry to double post, but do you think we can add a poll to this thread?
-
same issues. i have to restart from the bios loading window 3 times before i get windows to load. i have a kingston 96gb ssd. i didnt have any problems before i put the original hdd in a optical bay caddy.
-
Anyone was try using ssd corsair force 3 120Gb ??
You have this problem or not? -
so far i'm having no problems. i'll let you know if anything develops
-
I was good for the first couple of days than the problem occured again, I didnt get the problem today when I turn my laptop on so hopefully its good now but I really dont think so.
-
i read something on engadget Intel to owners of failed SSD 320s: we're 'aware of the customer sightings' -- Engadget
not to sure if it may effect you or not... but SSD's arnt perfect ATM many have small issues. -
still doing fine. day number 4
-
yea i think it started on the 4th day for me. and it happen again today I paid $640 for this and im pissed off.
-
its understandable.... but its the price we pay for being "early adopters..."
Best place to post would be intel's forums....
from what ive searched i cant seem to find a similar post....
maybe you may need to RMA the drive? -
i found one similar problem in the intel forums. unsure if it is you or not
-
No havent been in the intel forums yet
-
I gave up on the SSD this problem was never resolved I put my HDD back in the M14x I am very disappointed in the M14x and Dell. The system just isnt ready for sata 3
-
Now I can report a similar problem. I couldn't boot windows last night and had to reinstall after a series of somewhat infrequent hang ups on waking from sleep and booting up. very pissed off...going to return ssd and hopefully get full money back
