My plan is to add a 120-180gig SSD for OS and apps, while keeping the stock drive for storage, eliminating the DVD drive.
I guess I'm looking for feedback of those that have done this and what the current thought is on this.
What ye say!

If your'e willing to potentially damage your computer, and spend the money, then yes. But, losing the DVD drive will possibly really bite you in the one day. I thought it was pointless, but sometimes you have to burn a CD for whatever reason, and reinstalling the drive is a bit of a hassle.
So I guess if you really want it, then yes, but if it's something you could live without then no. -
Oh, and there was a lot of problems going around with SSD's now for the M14x.
-
They make external DVD drives.

I dropped a 256GB Crucial M4 in mine. Best decision I've made in years.
-
I say go for it. I haven't used a cd in years, last time i used it was to install a linux distro. My macbook airs ssd, although not as fast as typical ssd's, is pretty quick. I kinda dislike going on my m14x with its sluggish hdd
ssds are the way to go, I'm just waiting for a really good deal, 128 isn't going to cut it, especially as a main computer for me. I'd go with a western digital, samsung, or intel. But if you're going to swap out the dvd drive with the 500 gb hdd, might as well settle for a 64 gb ssd, for the os and other fast booting programs you want.

I had no problem with my two ssd's.

Never will use the internal DVD/cd drive so non issue for me.
My only question now is do I go single small SSD and keep the stock HD or go to a larger SSD and ditch the stock drive.
I'm sure a single SSD would increase battery life, wonder if it would be noticible. -
Seems as if I don't matter here, but I would go for the big one and get rid of the stock one. Unless you have 50 plus gigabytes of video and music, then I would keep the stock one in, to make sure you never run out of room.
-
I'd keep the stock drive unless there is a noticible increase in battery life.
So what 160-200 gig drive would you get? -
I would get a SSD, stock hdd is hella slow and I never really used the loud DVD drive. And yeah if you need the DVD drive later just buy a external one not waste time and reinstall it...

Throwing in my few cents - I threw a vertex 3 into my laptop, and to me it changed the personality on the entire thing. Boots much faster than original... I think I even have a video of the reboot speed here... let me see....
