    Shogun 2 won't allow me to go above low settings

    I'm not sure if it's detecting the GT555m. I did white list the game, and still nothing. On my older desktop computer it allows me to select up to high config and it has a 8800GT. Is that a faster card?

    make sure its white listed and what drivers are you using I'm using 270.60 (i think) and i can run the game on high perfectly....

    Yep, update the nVidia drivers. I would recommend the 275.xx or above.
