    Should I add more 65$ for 1600x900 instead 1366x768 for M14x?

The specs also say that the low res one has antiglare and that the higher res one doesn't. Is this true because then I would definetly rather the lower res?

There's particularly nothing a 768 can do that 900 can't, except you have to pay $65 for it, and I doubt that'd be a problem if you have the money to buy an alienware.

Just think about it, is there one thing that 768p can do that 900 can't?

Matte screen on the post 2008 era Alienware? LOLZ

The First M15x had matte screen option but not the new ones.

yeah, i thought that the page that popped up looked sort of fishy, I think it's just outdated. it seems to me that depending on which menus you use to navigate the dell site you'll end up on all sorts of different looking pages that suit the same purpose.

Also something of interest to note is it only costs 50 dollars to upgrade to the high res in Canada and not 65.

While 1366 x 768 does give you better performance, realize that with the 1600 x 900 you can just set the resolution of the game down to 1366 x 768. Personally, if I were you, I would go for it!

Still can't decide about which screen I should get...

Apparently Crysis 2 is playable at a decent framerate ONLY with MEDIUM settings on a 900p, while on 720p you can play with HIGH settings and still have a smooth experience...

Now, if I have to go for the 900p and then lower the resoultion every time for recent games (that is what I'm going to play), I really don't see the point in getting the 900p...

OMG! If you choose lower screen res then playing a game even with high level details will be bad without using MSAAx2 or MSAAx4. However Playing higher resolution may help you to decide to play without this MSAA. MSAA eats resources very much! As for me playing on higher resolution with lower is better then using lower resolution. Besides speaking about crysis2 I use special mod for configuring graphic settings where I can change shadows antialiasing and ton of everything else without using that stupid internal settings
The only disadvantage is that you will need a day or to to get used to text size which will be slightly lower than on that low resolution screen. Do not do a mistake because if you ever will decide to change a screen on higher resolution screen you will need to pay MUCH more than 65$

I say get the 768 screen, save the $65 for a beautiful samsung LED monitor with full HD res, and use the laptop and monitor in dual screen mode.

i don't no if this has been said already but just because u have a hi-res screen does not mean everything has to be tiny and hard to read in windows vista or windows 7 you can increase the size of all the text's and icons easily just increase the dpi in display settings.

A lot of people in here I think are assuming you want to play games on high with 35+ framerates(any game). If you aren't picky like me, and think 27-30 fps is acceptable, then you'll be fine with the higher res screen. I mean, if I was going to be that picky about it, I wouldn't get a gaming laptop as my primary source for games. Think about it this way, you'll probably end up selling your laptop when newer Alienware models come out...or when you want a new laptop, having the higher res screen will be a plus for buyers.

Uh... cant you just turn the res down to 1466x768 or 1280x720? I would still think it would be supported..

Thanks for you answers guys, think I'll go for the 900p, even though I would like to understand why people says that playing in a non native resolution sucks, therefore turning it down like Gearsguy suggest doesn't sound good...

I'm not a computer expert and I really appreciate all of your suggestions!

@Mudig this is my first gaming computer experience and I'm kinda forced to buy a laptop since I'm traveling a lot.

^basically, native resolution will be the 'clearest'. Setting the computer to a lower resolution basically stretches the image to fill the screen....It doesn't look terrible, but the native resolution is the clearest.

    BTW, good choice.

from my experience the only games that area really effective by lowing the resolution to lower than native are RTS games (supreme commander comes to mind). personal i would keep the resolution as high as possible and lower other settings like shadows and anti aliasing you could turn off AA with a 14inch screen with 1600x900. Also most games with look fine if they run at ~23fps as long as it a stable ~23fps (no large jumping around) anyone that says that have to have 30+ fps is silly (no offence meant to anyone)

I got the 900p and I think it looks great. My last laptop had a 15.6 inch that was 800p. This screen is smaller and higher resolution, so the sharpness looks amazing compared to what I had before. Things are smaller, but it isn't a problem. Also, you can have Windows increase the size of menus and the start bar and whatnot if they're too small. Setting those one size above normal will probably look just as good as it does normally. If you make them too big, your computer will look like it's running a pretty version of Windows 95. :)

900p Is the perfect. You always be able to do High settings on 1366x768, and Med on 900p

I have the 720p screen on my m14x and can honestly say that I don't regret it. That being said, I'm used to using a 20' 720p hdtv as my main monitor, so anything will look better than that up close.

With the upgraded screen, you're not just looking at the resolution either. My screen is really bright and that should help viewing with a reflective screen.

But the thing is, higher resolution in itself improves picture quality, so you don't need to set all the other settings as high. The way I see it, there is absolutely no drawback to the bigger screen, and it comes at a very fair price.

I have to say this! It's not just the size of the screen here that we are talking about, the resolution can be sized to 1400x900 to increase fps without loseing quality. But more than screen size there is the 300 cd compared to the 200 cd brightness which will make a huge diffrence in the way that you control the saturation, brigtness, gamma and conrtast of your colors.
