I've asked before but didnt get an answer, looked in the net but still have some small questions, and I always find answers on the forum :)

So here are the recommend settings (which according to bethesda is optimal for high settings)

    •Windows 7/Vista/XP PC (32 or 64 bit)
•Processor: Quad-core Intel or AMD CPU
    •4GB System RAM
    •6GB free HDD space
•DirectX 9.0c compatible NVIDIA or AMD ATI video card with 1GB of RAM (Nvidia GeForce GTX 260 or higher (i.e GTX550Ti); ATI Radeon 4890 or higher).
    •DirectX compatible sound card
    •Internet access for Steam activation

So the thing with my Alienware m14x, is that I have the i5 2410m processor...it's only dual core but has (correct me if wrong) hyperthread which give me virtual threads ? Dont know if it helps but yeah.

Also according to this Mobile Graphics Cards - Benchmark List - Notebookcheck.net Tech my GPU is just a bit under the GTX 260m

I'd be happy with an estimate of at least medium settings. So far my whole Alienware has been perfoming awsome with all games, it's just skyrim that I am having trouble deciding to buy it or not. My knowledge tells me i'll be able to pull it off on medium-high settings, but help is appreciated as I know not that much :D

I have 4gb of ram and 900p but will play on 720p of course.

Thanks all in advance :D (and sorry for the bad english) :p

If you look at some recent threads it has been stated that Skyrim will run perfectly fine on AT LEAST medium settings, meaning I would expect it to run on high settings acceptably on mine (I have i7, extra RAM I think 8Gb, and 3.0 Gb GT 555m along with an SSD) and possibly on yours as well.

I bought Skyrim on Steam today in fact.

Also keep in mind that Skyrim is optimized for the Xbox 360 so you can be sure that you will be able to run it better than that on the m14x.

Thank you Fallout4 for the response :D

The requirements for Skyrim seems to be a bit more than BF3 ? but of what i've seen BF3 is first online and second has amazing visually graphics. Then again, the m14x seems to be doing good with bf3 (according to the thread on this forum). I think my worries about Skyrim have fled a bit :D

Skyrim will in no way beat BF3 in terms of graphics lol.. It does look amazing but, like Fallout said, is made from the ground up for Xbox 360, meaning console port. Console ports usually do have decent graphics, but nothing mind blowing. Being a console port doesnt mean its bad though, as long as Bethesda doesnt spend five minutes on it like Infinity Ward does

Oh I know that, that's why I was suprised to see the requirements for Skyrim more demanding than BF3.

Being a conole port, does it meen that low settings on the pc are equal to the console version ? on BF3 , as we can't know for Skyrim... yet :p

    Thanks Gearsguy :)

If you can run a game on medium settings that is definitely better graphically than a console. I am sure low is AT LEAST the same as if not better as well.

The nice thing about Bethesda games is they historically have a good modding community so people create entire texture packs and other really interesting modifications to the game that you can download for free that can often improve both the graphics and overall gameplay by adding new weapons or armor or other things. Even without that, Skyrim will definitely look better on PC. I have played Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Fallout: New Vegas on both Xbox and PC and they all look and sound amazing on the m14x with a headset.

    The screenshots look amazing.

Oh no no no, skyrim has way lower recommendations than BF3, BF3 recommendation is GTX 560, which is way above what skyrim recommends. Will be the best game ever though... looking forward to it :) I also think you will be fine medium-high graphics in skyrim :)

i have a question about skyrim running on steam. I have never been able to get steam to run in offline mode without connecting to the steam network before trying to run in offline mode. since skyrim runs only through steam will a person be able to play without internet connection after initial setup or am i doing something wrong with steam?

My guess is that steam will only be needed for installation, patches, and what not but youll be able to play it without internet connection. Just my guess tho hehe, not an expert, just got steam like 2 months ago.

Ok, guess my skills for requirements still need a bit of tweaking ! :p Thanks for the response on the settings :D I even installed my oblivion GOTY a week ago because I couldnt wait any longer haha, it was great to finally running it all maxed with steady fps !

Even with Oblivion you can see a difference from the pc to xbox 360 and it's a 5 year old game, cant wait for Skyrim :D

Just look at it this way. You said you have the i5 right? Skyrim reccomends a quad core, meaning itll take advantage of all 4 cores of an i7 most likely. So with a very powerful i5 you shouldnt bottleneck on the CPU too badly and therefore will be fine in the CPU department. Its also being built from the ground up for the xbox 360, so a mix of med/high will be equivalent to the xbox. Since the m14x can easily handle all console ports at over 60fps basically, Skyrim should run on High/Ultra for you.

You might try connecting to steam online, then restarting in offline mode, and THEN turning your internet off. Then exit steam and restart. Or try connecting online, restarting in offline mode, the exiting BEFORE turning off the internet connection, and THEN turn the connection off.

One of those should work as it does for me.

i can get it to work with an internet connection. what my concern is is what happens when i don't have a connection to internet? It leaves me without being able to connect leaving me not able to play any game i have bought through steam. if im gonna pay 60 bucks for a single player i game i expect to play it when i don't have an internet connection which is something i don't see happening with steam.

My previous post explains exactly how I managed to get Steam to start in offline mode when my internet is disabled and I turn on my computer. Try doing that and see. Hopefully it works.

i see what your saying ill try it and see if it works. my only concern is will it last if i happen to lose internet connection. hate to not be able to play games if i happen to be without internet for a long period of time.

Maybe we should just started a Skyrim Discussion Thread. But to answer OPs question, no matter what the launcher will show Intel HD graphics, but if you whitelisted the games exe under the NVIDIA control panel then itll run off that
