    Hey all

I received my m14x and I am thoroughly impressed with it thus far. It's a tad thick, but the screen size is pretty good (with the 900P screen). I consider it very portable and the weight doesn't seem like it would be an issue.

So I have two small issues with my laptop. My windows key button has like a little hole in it so LED light leaks through it. Nothing too big if I am actively typing (since my hand covers it) but If I am not, then it looks ugly. I could try to sharpie it, but then if I use it It will probably rub off.

Second, on my right wrist rest, there is a small white bump (like some kind of dirt) that also looks kind of ugly when I don't have my hand over it It's not noticeable unless you are in front of the laptop and look down on it / try to feel for it.

Are these 2 issues just "deal with it" issues? they don't take from performance obviously and when typing on my laptop or just plain using it then it's not an issue. I guess when the base model price is $1200 you expect it to be super perfect :p

True, I COULD, it just seems both issues are so minor and im just nitpicking.

Having them to send me over a new laptop that could potentially have worse (ever so slightly) physical issues just irks me

phone them up they will come to your house and replace the key and the outside casing, i've heard they have done similar things before but no personnel experience before though

I personally do not recommend you to change the parts to a new machine
    what's the point?
well you paid for a laptop with no problems and received something damaged
tell them to change it for another
I tell you from experience once you start service calls that never ends the technician is going to hurt something else and it all starts to be frustrating

    Yes.

I had less problems than you did and I callled the next business day after I received my laptop and had them send me out a replacement. I will keep doing it until it is perfect (or they offer me a significant discount to "deal with it") - because, I, like you - spent $1200 on this thing and I do not want to deal with problems when it is new...because how much worse would it get over time? Get perfection right away and settle for nothing less. They can always refuse and you can return it and go on your way with another mfr.

All right guys, thanks for your opinions

I'll give them a call in the morning and will see what they decide to do. I'd much rather them replace it or do nothing, than to have someone come and attempt to fix it.

Although I'll be sure to pressure them into a new one if possible :p

Don't pressure - just state what is wrong and that you want a new one. It's that simple. Tell them you either want to return or exchange it. They will always take the exchange. At worst they will offer you a $$$ discount to keep the "defective" unit. At that time you can choose return, exchange, or $$$ discount. Win win.

Go in confident - they made the error/mistake - not you. They make more money because of online/direct sales (i.e. you can't go into a store to inspect a unit prior to purchase) which is why they have a 21 day return guarantee.

    Good luck. :)

So I called earlier today, had a friendly rep, and everything seemed to be going so well! We agreed on exchange and that I would be emailed confirmation with the rep's name, contact info, etc. (Of course I don't take any effort in remembering his name since I was told I will be emailed it)

4 hours later, I have yet to receive an email and thus I call again to just confirm/make sure. I get told by the rep there is nothing posted on my service tag, or notes/anything. I tell him my issues, but he says he can only repair it; or cancel my order, send my laptop back, and then order a new one with the same specs. Which is crazy! Told me I cannot get an exchange on something that is repairable with new parts .....

Just call back and get a different rep. Keep doing so until you get what you want.

    ^ Exactly.

With Dell, it's hit or miss. You might get an empathetic rep, you might get a rep that talks it up on the phone but does nothing in the computer systems. Keep calling till you get it.

(However, in my opinion, those marginal defects will be in any new unit as well. Probably just in different areas)

Will also hurt your resale value too having a defective unit, if you ever decided to sell it.

Trust me, you have not done the battery shut down test properly to produce the failure. It is not fixed yet so it is perfect excuse for you to tell Dell for legal return.

He's right, I thought mines worked okay until I followed Titan's instructions to "maximum performance" then after running furmark, within 10 seconds turned off :(
