Yesterday I did the system recovery and after it finished the download, my computer had a lower quality screen (lower resolution) the screen saver is not the one that my computer came with, and it was unable to connect to the internet because "No wireless HARDWARE was found." Somehow rebooting my computer removed HARDWARE (I don't understand that) as my newly rebooted computer's max resolution only reaches into the 1000's and before the max resolution was about 1366/ some other number. Many initial files were missing, and a lot of the layout of my computer is different. It won't even let me use my MOUSE.![]()
I tried re-installing the windows 7 disk it came with but when it says "Get the latest updates" it says I have to connect to the internet, so that won't work.
I just got this laptop less than a month ago and NO it didn't have viruses or anything, I just simply wanted my laptop to go back to it's original status.
What can I do?

Just an fyi you'll probably get more relevant views and replies if your title was not generic.
-
So it shows you physically don't have hardware installed in your hardware manager? -
So my guess is, since I can't install the windows 7 with "the latest updates" because I don't have internet, I installed without the updates and now I'm left with no internet, poor image quality, mouse disabilities... I mean, I thought a system recovery was suppose to delete all the changes you made to your PC and bring it back to the way it originally was when you first turned it on. This is clearly not what it looked like when I first got it...
Is there really nobody out there that knows what to do? I mean, obviously you guys are gonna suggest me to call dell but their customer service sucks I heard. Not to mention I JUST got this laptop so I really don't know why this is so complicated... I guess I'm asking for way to much. -
Use the resource dvd that came with your m14x? that has all the drivers for the computer (not the latest one but there's a driver there for the wireless internet. If you somehow don't have that if you have access to another computer download the drivers from dell and then transfer it with a usb.... hope this helps

I don't have the resource dvd with me as of right now but it's there. For the resolution problem download the driver for intel integrated graphics card. It should also be in the resource dvd if not it's at dell's website.

And that's fine, I really appreciate it but one last question. What do the ones with the check marks next to them mean and the ones without? -
MAN THANK YOU SO MUCH. NOW I CAN REINSTALL WINDOWS 7 WITH THE "LATEST UPDATES" SO I GET EVERYTHING BACK TO NORMAL.
SERIOUSLY, WE NEED MORE PEOPLE LIKE YOU IN THIS WORLD. -

I remember when I first turned this laptop on, there was at least 8-10 icons on the desktop. I only have the trash bin?
Also, I can't find that app where you get to change the back light.
Is there a way I can get all this back? -
The backlight thing you need to install the OSD application found on the M14x Resource DVD. Or you can also find it on Control Panel under Power. -
Also, my base score was originally 5.9 now it's 5.8? Here is it...
Processor subscore - 7.4
Memory subscore - 7.6
Graphics - 5.8
Gaming graphics - 6.9
Primary hard disk - 5.9 -
For the Graphic usually it is because of Windows use the Intel HD Graphic as your primary card, so to say, if you look at the two graphic option, you see that Graphic is 5.8 while Gaming Graphic (nVidia GPU) is 6.9.
For me I dont use the stock driver for Intel HD Graphic, I use the latest updated version, which u can get it from the Intel Driver Download Website, update the latest driver and re-run the WEI again, and you'll see that u have a score of 6.9 equally with the Gaming Graphic with the low of 5.9 for the HDD. -
And I tried searching for those apps and couldn't find any of them. Well I did find the Mcafee one but that was it. I tried installing that alienware OSD application from the resource dvd and I still don't have it.
Is there a way I can literally just recover my laptop all together back to the way it originally was without going through all of this? The resource dvd is great but didn't give me back everything.
Everything works normal, internet, games, etc just those missing apps... I don't get it. -
EDIT: Just found a website, it's called: My Dell Download What it do is that it allow you to download the factory installed application. You will need a Dell account for register your laptop. -
EDIT: Nvm, it was because I was using firefox lol.
EDIT: It's been "Examining your computer please wait " for a while now, how long is this suppose to take. -
Oh but what IE version are you? -
Someone PLEASE HELP.
