I just got my shiny new M14x yesterday and noticed the right side of the spacebar sits about 1/2 of a millimeter taller than the left side. I wouldn't have noticed if the led lights weren't on...more light shines under the right side than the left. Anyone else have this problem? Should I be concerned?
-
i have this as well ! and sometimes it makes it squeak
i have also noticed a dip in the speak at the top right like someone has bent it by pressing down hard with there thumb. ;/ just noticed it after taking it apart and putting my ssd and hdd caddy in -
lmao I though my space bar was the only one that squeaked.. But it stopped all of a sudden. I think after pressing the space bar so often is stopped.
-
lol after reading this I noticed mines squeaks as well
-
mine does not squeak, but it does seem "uneven' althought i just assumed it was supose to be like that. =/
-
what do you guys think about that "dip" on the top right of my speakers ( the bar at the top of the keyboard that has the power button on )
-
FYI I haven't noticed mine squeaking.
-
My speaker bar also dips over the top right speaker.
-
little squeeks. I noticed that when i got it.. and a little flexing as well.
-
Mine started squeaking after I compiled a couple big outlines for my classes. It didn't do it at first but after enough typing it started. It doesn't really bother me that much but I've considered pulling the space bar off and seeing if I can grease it or something lol.
-
here is the dip in the speaker i was talking about, you can only see it in the light, the picture actually makes it look worse than what it is
anyone else have this ? i should Imagen its just where the guy building the laptop has tried to force the speaker down and has left a dent with his thumb
should i get them to change it ?
i guess i could get them to balance out the keyboard and replace that at the same time -
Mine definitely does not have that dip..I'm sure you can get an in-house tech to switch it out
-
Ouch. That looks bad from the photo, but you said it isn't that bad.
I would say call Dell support and get them to send a tech to replace the thing. Looks like some force was applied there that bent it.
Perhaps you could also disassemble and lightly bend it back into place too. -
My bump can only be felt, not seen.
I would get them to fix yours. It should be as simple as replacing that grill piece. -
yeah i was looking at the service guide.. i pretty sure they cant mess it up
lol -
So, I noticed while typing the other day that my space bar squeaks every once in a while, but only if I press it in a certain spot near the center (and even then, it only squeaks occasionally). Also, the space bar on mine is crooked as well. More light shows through on the right side then on the left, and it's clearly higher on the right if you get eye-level with it.
-
My space bars the same, no squeak but deffo higher on the right.
No speaker dent to speak of though, if it looked the the posters pic above I'd get them straight out to sort it. -
damn that dent on your right speaker looks painful =X, hopefully it gets fixed
-
yeah just waiting for a phone call back from dell.. trying to get it replaced lol
Dent on speaker
Battery wont go above 92%
squeeky spacebar and un-level keyboard in general
Buzzing sound when booting up the laptop (link bellow)
YouTube - M14x problem
Optical drive disappears randomly ( but only when in use )
apart from that no problems to report
they are defo giving me a replacement ! i will not take a repair for all this, especially when some people think that buzzing has to do with a dodgy mother board.
-
just got of the phone and its being replaced ! wahoo
hes calling tomorrow to give me my new tracking number
-
Congrats!
In the meantime, I'm still waiting for my replacement part... *sob* -
At first enter was squeaking. Spacebar has recently joined.
Noone is bothered enough by this to actually request a keyboard replacement, or service?
//Eaglehorn -
So do they need to receive the original laptop first to ship the replacement? Or they are just counting on you to ship them dented one and that the replacement is already shipped?
Because I'd make the sweat a little after something like that
-
i get to hold on to it until i get the new one, and i think i am ment to hand this one over to who ever delivers the next one
-
Wow...that's making me think dirty thoughts about replacing my laptop towards the end of my warranty.
-
What exactly doe you mean by "squeak"? Everytime I see a thread about M14X problems, I have a paranoia that I have it too.
-
Those dents look like over tightened screws pulling the grill. I had that issue on my HP.
-
I dont know how to describe squeak diffrently - It's sort of a missound comming from the spacebar or enter key when pressed - As if the keys needs greasing.
-
Isn't the grill held on by tabs, not screws?
-
yeah there are no screws, it looks like someone's gone to clip it in place but just pressed down to hard with there thumb
-
My space and left shift keys are starting to do it as well, though it only happens if I press in the right location.
I'm going to see if they'll send me a new keyboard, as my space bar is off-kilter a well. -
I think all the space bars are off kilter. Is yours a little higher on the right side?
-
My space bar stopped squeaking but now my backspace button squeaks ><
lol it's worse than a worn hamster wheel. O_O -
what kind of keyboard does m14x use?
-
Thought maybe a screw hold from under it might be there. The screw that holds the back on from vids looks to be just the other side of that dent. Under some hp batteries there are 4 screws that hold the speaker grills and keyboard. I over did mine and had two dents which thankfully popped back out.
If you call dell do they just send you the part or does someone come and fix it? Cause if it happens to mine I will just push it back myself if it means not having i for a few days. -
you keep hold of the other laptop until the new one arrives so you dont have anything to loose
-
I called Dell tech support today concerning the squaking keys - According to the guy I was talking to, this problem does not fall under the "known issue" category, however, the supporter thought it would be best to replace the keyboard.
