Skyrim has now been released, and aside from a few bugs, it's a great game that runs pretty good on our M14x's.

Since many of us have been posting about Skyrim all over the place, one poster suggested we open a Skyrim discussion thread.

Post anything about Skyrim on M14x here: Impressions, reviews, tips, problems, solutions, technical issues, etc.

I played about 2 hours so far, high (default) settings at a steady average of 30 FPS, and so far I love it!

Character creation has been simplified, and we can now finally dual-wield weapon/shield/spells.

    Woohoo!

i play with a modified skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini that maxxes every setting out and I play at 1600x900 and still get very playable framerates (but i havent checked them to be honest)

I played about an hour and the game runs and looks great (before that ini it really didnt look to good i think its really necessary)

I had thought it was gonna be way harder to run considering the specs, but I guess that people saying this was it was a consolo port hence wouldnt be hard were right ! All high (default) and I have over 35 fps. Plus I have the i5 2410m m14x model.

Great game overall, only played 1h30.

I love the new leveling system !

And thanks for the thread (YES, they are other games than BF3 and COD) :)

I feel like my machine is abnormal. Using gearsguy's settings in the other thread, I get 25-35 fps with my gpu at 91C and cpu at 88C on average. I'm a little worried about it, and it does make for choppy gameplay.

Latest drivers, upgraded RAM, i7 model.

91C for GPU is alot. I played 2 hour straight and only got to 71C max. Whats your OC level ? And for the CPU, my i5 got maxed at like 83 but usually had around 78, and is relatively cooler than an i7 so maybe 88C isnt that bad. I use the new drivers that just got available like 2 weeks ago on the dell site.

Try the default high setting, its been working really good for me and looks great ! :)

my CPU got maxed at like 83C, average of 72-78. And GPU only 71C.
Im not OC alot tho, just 700/1400/960. I also have the newest driver available on the dell website. Works fine for me ! And I use the default high settings.

Im happy I got the i5, great perfomance and the temp is best.

I have whitelisted skyrim, but the launcher still shows as intel?? the game appears to run fine using the 555 but its just annoying me

I am slightly confused, when tring to whitelist both exe's in the steam apps folder it only adds it as skyrim not not the exe name shown?

    Any ideas? guys

is it hard to repaste the GPU and CPU on the m14x? I'd defninatly sugjest that if possible cause 91C  is in the red zone and 88C on the CPU is pretty high too.

This is my first gaming PC so I have a question about mods. I'm trying out a couple of the early ones from here: Skyrim Nexus - Skyrim Mods and community. Specifically, the more detailed faces one (...and a more obvious one to make sure it was/wasnt working so I got the nude mod lmao).

I do as the readme/comments say and put the files into C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\skyrim\Data. In the launcher window, I go to Data Files and check "load loose files" but still the mod isn't working. Am I doing something wrong? Is something other than Skyrim.esm supposed to appear in the Data Files section of the launcher?

It's a little time involving, but not particularly hard. I actually took apart my machine last week and literally got to the last step, only to find that one of the screws on the heatsink was sheared at the top and completely irremovable. Jeweler's screw, pliers, superglue trick, nothing worked. Unfortunately I live in a country that has zero experience with this sort of thing, so taking it to a local repair shop isn't really viable. I ended up just rebuilding the machine and calling it a wash.

I don't think it's a hardware issue though, since it's only Skyrim that does this for me. Card isn't over/underclocked, incidentally, and nothing obstructs the vent.

I have been downloading Skyrim since the 11/9/2011. This is starting to really anger me. steam downloads at like 30 kb/sec. Then I finally finish the download only to have it start updating itself with a file that must be just as large.

    Seriously .

LOL if you look at some reviews of the PC version of Skyrim, they are rating it 1/10 or 3/10 just because they don't like the menu consolization.

PC gamers getting way too picky? I wouldn't know, I am still downloading Skyrim the last 6 days...

    Strange, I love it.

The only bug I've encountered so far is that with favorites, assigning a number doesn't work properly. I kept losing my quick key for the bow, so I had to access the quick menu to re-equip it everytime.

I actually love the menu consolization. The entire interface is minimalist and easy to use.

I'm 4-5 hours into it now, I completed the Dragon Claw quest and so far I give Skyrim a 9/10.

Tip: Don't try to take on a giant by yourself at lvl 4. Funny, but bad idea.

Havent heard of those bad reviews ??? And I think people are way too picky. YES, the you can clearsy see and feel that the menu have been made for console but it still works just as good. Could have been a little butter but it doesnt change the gameplay at all. Amazing game 9 outta 10 easy (with only 6 hours in tho).

I also tried the ultra setting (every thing maxed) and managed to pull a steady 28-30 fps, so far i've super impressed with the m14x. Im playing a mix of high and ultra at the moment with medium for shadows and have always over 45 fps outside and inside. :) Would have never guessed that a 14 inch laptop could pull it off ! haha and I have the basic m14x, with i5 2410m.

One question, did you guys follow the imperial guard or the stormcloack prisoner for the introduction mission ?

    Enjoi the gaming !
