I will be choosing between the above 2 for my m14x. Which of them offers better overall cooling performance?

Definitely the U2. The M14x's exhaust vents are on the bottom of the laptop, and the Chill Mat will block these vents.

With the U2, the intake and exhausts ports are not obstructed. I have the U2, and my i7 maxes out at 85C. GPU (700/1000) at 65C.

It fits perfectly. It's about 1/2 an inch bigger on the sides.

I have the chill mat and I like it. The only thing is that you have to slightly position it offset of the center to get the fans under the cpu intake. Not a big deal though, its still balanced so you can play on your lap or a table.

Sure about that? I thought it was the same as all the other Dell/AW systems - intake is on the bottom, exhausting out the rear of the chassis.

I stand corrected! I thought the speaker hole was the intake. I was wondering why it's so small.

That is correct. Intake is on the bottom left, and exhaust in left rear. The bottom right is just a vent.

I have a cooler very similar to the zalman and the U2 beats it hands down as you can maximise the fan placement.

U2 is the best, previously I had deepcool cooler but it didn't works like u2.

    Idle 50-60 using deepcool, 45-50 using u2

the u2 pulls air away from the unit right? dont we want a cooler that blows air up into the intake?

nope, the u2 have 2 fans that blows air into the intake.. so basically u2 blows cold air into the system...
I put it the 1st fan under the intake fan and the other under the RAM slot that I know from teardown guide somehow have a vent to the main airflow of the m14x

It helps cooling the system, I am using a05 bios setting playing BF3 all medium plus ultra on texture 900p temp 75-80 c, when using deepcool cooler reach out 95c for 2 hours intense gaming

what about putting the second fan under the other intake opposite the first intake fan?

I don't think that gonna make it, because u2 fan is created with clamps that fit with the cooler, put it second fan opposite it's not going to works because exhaust m14x is in the rear part not the RAM slot, put 2 fan under the intake and the RAM slot the exhaust do the rest...
