Hello guys, i was just wondering if any of you have tried playing the witcher 2 on your M14x ?
I am having a hard time running it, i am getting 17 FPS on high ( ultra is highest )
Is there anyway i can make sure that its running on the high performance graphics card ?
I went to nvidia control panel and selected the witcher 2 application and changed it to high performance graphics card and i am still getting the same FPS so either its running on the integrated graphics card of the 555GT just cant run witcher 2 very well
is there anyway i can assure my self that it is actually running the 555Gt as the graphics card for this game ?
Thanks
Jon
16 - 20 FPS when fighting on medium settings ...
22 FPS max when just walking about
Is that all the m14x has to give ?![]()
I dont mind playing games at 25 FPS because to me thats all you need but when it dips down to 16 fps you can notice a big differnce !

There is a way to be certain that the game is using the GT555m :
Activate the "notification" icon (the option is in the nVidia control panel, under the "desktop" tab). This way it displays an icon in the taskbar, and by clicking on it, you'll be able to see which program is running on the GT555M.
I do not have The Witcher 2 so I can't tell you if it should run better; but I am certain it should. This game is said to be well optimized.
edit : I just read on a french forum that another person is having a hard time running this game. I was considering buying it and would be very disappointed if medium/20fps is all I could expect from my M14x as it would be the first time a game appears "M14x-proof" to me -
I have been running it without any issues on medium settings, but I didn't check the fps count. For me if I can play again and not feel slow and clipped, I usually don't check. You may want to try those beta drivers nvidia has as I hear they were partly released in time for the Witcher 2. Well back to playing, just finished the first major beast boss and it is a blast.
-
how did you get the new driver to install ? (275.27 beta)
it keeps giving me this message:
this graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware
could that be down to having 2 gpus in the m14x ? -
The GT 555M is right around the minimum GPU requirement, which is why you're having poor performance.
Lower screen resolution to 720p, select medium preset, turn off SSAO, -
I have got witcher 2 running on high with a good frame rate - using the beta Nvidia drivers and overclocking the GT555M to 750MHz using MSI afterburner.
Got to love that fan noise!
So far played 90 mins with no issues.
To get the beta drivers to install you need a modifed inf file - one of threads from a day or two ago has the file in it -
was the thread under m14x or somewhere else ?
-
What is your average framerate? -
Thanks +1 rep
Ok just tried the game again, its gone from having like 30 fps before driver install
now it has got 10 fps...
I dont think the 555GT is working.. it wont appear in that desktop icon that its working so somethings not right
any suggestions ?
Ok i can confirm that my nvidia optimus is not working now.. when ever i select run with "high-performance nvidia graphics card" and click apply it will not apply the settings because when i right click the application and look at the default graphics card it says integrated graphics is default.
Any suggestion ?
Maybe re download nvidia optimus drivers ? -
-
yeah thats what i have done to white list it, select high-performance Graphics card and then select apply
Then if i re-open the nvidia control panel it has gone back to intergrated as the default for some reason..
Just tried unistalling it and installing the IGP driver then reinstalling nvidia one but i still have the same problem -
I downloaded MSI Afterburner and it provides a GPU usage monitor.
Try launching Afterburner then Witcher 2 and see if your GPU is in use. -
i know for sure its not on because i am only getting 10 fps and the picture looks terrible
and also it keeps reverting to integrated in settings, i will apply the settings then close the windows and reopen it and i see that the integrated is default.
But thanks for the suggestions
I am surprised that i am the only one with this problem.. i must have got something wrong some where down the line. -
If the problem concerns other games too, you might wanna consider reverting back to older drivers.
I think I read somewhere that you updated to the last BETA drivers ? My advice would be to go back to the previous version you were using; see if this particular problem disappears.
Then, you can see if The Witcher 2 uses intel's chip or nVidia's GPU and it will be easier to pinpoint the cause of TW2 fps problem. -
yeah its a good idea but i wanted this driver because apparently it boost the performance of the witcher 2 a fair bit.
+1 rep though for trying to help, you have suggested a lot of good ideas -
If you go back to older drivers, you can then reinstall the BETA ones and see if the problem reappears.
Finally, if you want to gain some fps, I would suggest overclocking the GPU a little bit. That said, I don't really know if it's safe to do so, I was gonna do some digging about it, but then I started playing L.A.Noire -
this problem only seems to be effecting the witcher 2
Anyway i can like "overide" the optimus system and force it to run the high performance GPU ? -
Still surprised at the fact nobody else except Paddon has posted their FPS in game...
-
I will try it out later... been playing it on my Desktop.
But I will say that it will probably have problems on anything less than the Latest Beta Drivers from Nvidia... Even on my Desktop... I was getting HORRIBLE Frame-rates... That's with an overclocked i5 750 running 4GHz and 2x Geforce 470 SLIed.
But even then... with the latest Beta Drivers... I was getting crap Frame-rates.... I ALSO had to open up Task Manager > Services> and disable "stereo Service" which is for the Nvidia 3D Vision Driver.
I think this has to be done even if you don't have a 3D vision setup... since Nvidia includes the 3D vision driver with all their driver releases now.
Try that and see if the Framerates improved...
After I did that... I was able to get 60+ FPS non-stop Ultra-Maxed everything Minus "Uber-Sampling" on my DESKTOP. Before that, I was getting like 12FPS even on lower settings....
It's a shame and I hope they fix the issues soon.. -
medium settings, drivers for 270.61, no tweaking, overclocking or optimizing and I was drawing 23 fps in a big battles with a boss type monster and other stuff occurring on screen. It dropped to 19 once, but stayed consistent at 23 fps, which was odd because it never felt like I was moving slow.
-
i think i could get it on high with a little more tweaking and with this new GPU driver but cant tell you until i get this optiumus thing working -
the problem is more with the game...not the gpu...read review on ign...
-
I just tried it out.... I get about 30 FPS + most non-stop... lowest might be 25 FPS at the lowest.. and up to 40-45 at the highest. Very playable...
My settings...
-Driver Version: 275.27
-Overclocked GPU in MSI Afterburner: 750/1500
-Uninstalled 3D Vision Driver, because it has been known to cause problems with GPU usage with Witcher 2
-Graphics Settings: Medium *Auto Detected*
-Resolution: 1280x720
All these settings, the game looks good, and runs really solid and well without any stuttering or hiccups. -
-
I get 25-35 fps on high shadows, high shadowed lights, and very large textures. Most things are disabled except for bloom and depth of field. It will occasionally dip.
Res: 720p
Drivers: 275.27 beta -
Ok got my game working again on high performance
With these settings i am getting and average FPS of 30-35
Lowest FPS of 25
Highest FPS of 40 +
Hope this helps
However there is one scene with like 15 v 15 people and it can dip down to 18 FPS but only for a few secs then back up to like 25 FPS
i can personally cope with that
Also this is with NO OC -
There's is nothing wrong with the beta drivers. In fact it's running good with noticeable increase in most games.
For those who are experiencing massive lag in Witcher 2 and/or game unable to recognise 555M card as the default even though you set it in the Nvidia whitelist, try this:
Uninstall the 3D drivers using the control panel after you installed the modded beta drivers. Set whitelist again and you should be good to go. -
When it wouldnt let me set it as default gpu, i fixed it by setting global settings to High performance graphics card
-
-
but i will post here again if you like

So, it can run The Witcher 2?
That's great! Another game to play in my long list of games to play. It just needs some tweaking.
-
-
I think it looks visually great to be honest and i havent noticed any difference
These settings probably aren't the best, but the best i have done so far
CrossXedge Quote: What settings are you running this on? Low?
You can see all the settings i have done in the picture
But its on high mainly with a few tweaks -
I would personally just go with "Medium"... The game is hard as hell.. especially later on.. and those "Dips" in frame-rates can make or break you... lol....
And there will be points where you will get literally MOBBED by a lot of monsters.... -
Some claim the no DRM version runs around 10 fps faster than retail.
-
^ yup yup, well at least the non-DRM .exe from GoG

Good Tip
In the case of my desktop. I have. 3d vision setup. So being to just temporarily disable the service helps. -
Found this video of the witcher 2 playing at an average 35 fps... Looks awesome if you ask me!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVEOJ3GGIgI -
That looks awesome. Really good. I've been reading so much about how this game is so graphics heavy and seeing it run that smooth makes me lose doubt about my purchase again. I was worried that if it can't run Witcher 2, what else can't it run in the future. But that's not the case here. -
Keep in mind that the person that made this video is running the game in 1366x768
-
i get 30-32 fps on high with tweaks with the 900 p screen
-
Hey Guys, I just got my m14x yesterday. I just installed Witcher 2 on it set the game to 720p mediul settings and opened it, and it ran soo horribly that the intro videos played at 1-2 fps and then the game menu was so slow I could barely use the mouse.
Yes it is plugged in, and yes the gpu on the taskbar says its runing on the 555 and yes I have the beta drivers. Is there anything I am missing? I owned the m15x previously and I just sold it. I know the sandy bridge processor is about twice as fast, and I was under the impression that the 555 is about equal to the gtx 260 in my m15x. But this performance is horrible. Any sugestions? Thanks... -
I have been trying to play witcher to on a M14X at stock speeds and no matter what i do it always has between 15-22 fps even on ultra with ubersampling off.
Can anyone give me some advice? Just want some more fps to be stable incase it drops.
Im using the nvidia beta drivers and got 900p screen.
Thanks -
you have to make the nvidea control panel force it to use the 555m on the games .exe
-
I finished the Witcher 2 today on my m14x on medium settings running around 30 fps. I updated my graphics driver to the latest beta driver, updated the witcher 2 to version 1.1 and just tweaked some of the advanced graphic option, like turning off anti-aliasing.
If you update the graphics driver, there should be no need to whitelist this game. I never had to do that in order to get the game to launch. -
Im playing witcher at 900p with custom user.ini file and OC 750/1050 getting between 30-38 FPS steady and it looks absolutely amazing.
Here are the setting if anyone wants to try it out.

Taken from neogaf and slightly changed by me.
Just make sure you set file as read-only and when you start launcher you dont click settings.
PS: Got a 3GB Card which seems to make some kind of difference as you need over 2GB for very large texture memory size. -
You can run default very large memory budget (600) with a 1GB card.
I have mine set at 1500. You might as well put yours at 2000, though I'm not sure at what point the game stops using available memory. -
