ok i have been speaking to BatBoy about this as well and we cant figure out why it is doing this but heres the problem..
My second hard drive ( optical hard drive ) keeps disapearing, it cant be found on my computer or the disk manager, but if i open up my laptop and disconnect the hard drive and reconnect it when i boot the laptop up again it will be there.
Any advise ?
And to people that cant find there hard drive to start with go to control panel>system and security>administration tool>computer manager>storage>disk manager. you will see your hard drive there and you will need to right click it and select "create new simple volume" and then you can see it in my computer.
if anyone can help me with my problem i will greatly apreciate it !
thanks

No problems whatsoever with mine. My guess is your replacement HDD caddy for the optical bay is faulty/cheap so it flakes out intermittently.
-
All is good now, some reason after i installed all the drivers its keeping put
-
Ok i got the problem again... i was just transfer a game file from an external HDD to the HDD in the caddy and it kinda froze for about a minute and then it started going again but it was quickly followed by a error message saying it cant locate the hard drive, And sure enough when i open up my computer the HDD wasn't there. I tried restarting the laptop many times and it still wouldnt appear so i had to remove the back cover and take the connector out and push it back in and when i booted the laptop up again it was there
any ideas why this is happening to me ? -
I don't know what options there is in the BIOS regarding the drive. So I just trying the get an idea of thougth, or what to say.
Is there an option to detect this second drive in BIOS?
If so if you leaves this undetected will this behaviour change? -
I had the same issue having the drive disappearing when i had another usb device connected at boot.
also, i noticed that external cdrom drives operate better in the legacy usb 2.0 port on the left.
so when you boot disconnect all your usb devices see if this helps you more. -
Also i will just mention i can not see it in bios i can only see my ssd one -
edit: Side questions. Is your V3 SSD using SATA III 6GB? and you have any pictures of your install of the drives? -
could it be a damaged ribbon cable ?
it was kinda tricky ripping it of the optical drive and sticking it to the caddy, i suspect it got damaged. But would it loose connection randomly when transferring files but be fine if left alone.. does that sound like the symptoms of a damaged ribbon cable ? -
-
i dont think its the caddy, when i say i take the connection out i dont take the connection out where its connected to the caddy i take it out on the other end where the strip just slots down.
so i think damaged ribbon ;/ -
well you can always put the optical bay back to test the ribbon cable?
-
this is the connector i remove and replace to fix it
-
Haha.
Yeah - I broke a tab off of the white part that holds the ribbon securely - thing still works and is solid. -
Ah m8 thats so unfair.... You brake yours and it works and mine is perfectly fine but ****** ! Lol
-

Intel RST driver. Makes sure the latest version is installed and make sure you have the service to set immediately and not "Delayed". For some reason I think it has to be installed and running for the optic drive to be subst with a HDD or SSD.
-
+repped, i saw an improvement with the RST driver.
Theres a problem if you replace the optical drive with a HDD
